Lio Q, Anhauser, Nicolas Leonelli – Sands of Time [Clubsonica Records]

Clubsonica Records caps off a successful 2020 by welcoming Lio Q, Anhauser and Nicolas Leonelli to the label for their debut single. Established solo artists in their own right, the Argentinean trio made their collaborative debut in May of this year with a release via Antrim's Strangers Beats imprint. A second offering courtesy of One Of A Kind then followed shortly thereafter, solidifying the trio's creative synergy. Now presenting the most anticipated release of their career, Lio Q, Anhauser and Nicolas Leonelli debut on Clubsonica with 'Sands of Time', alongside remixes from Space Motion and East Cafe.

Now collaborating on their third project together, Lio, Anhauser and Nicolas have dialled in their best and most sought-after production to date with 'Sands of Time'. As a favourite of Hernan Cattaneo for several months, the legendary DJ first featured the track in his Resident Podcast earlier this year. Nostalgic and commanding, its well carved groove is powerful, driving momentum forward with each successive loop, as a catchy arp and percussive details fill in the framework. Haunting overlays advance the narrative into a rhythmic break, highlighted by timely modulation and frosty atmospheres, before a classy crescendo summons a smooth finale.

The first interpretation of 'Sands of Time' is provided by Space Motion who makes his label debut. With nearly two decades working in the electronic underground, the Serbian artist has enjoyed immense success in the world of melodic house and techno. Upon creating his Space Motion alias in 2010, the Novi Sad resident has showcased his music via Eleatics, Timeless Moment and his own Space Motion Records imprint, while earning live play from world class DJs such as Black Coffee and Solomun. As a steady staple in Beatport's sales charts, Space Motion now makes his Clubsonica debut with a rousing rendition of 'Sands of Time'. Atop a muscular groove and crunchy rhythms sits the buoyant lead theme. Its free flowing energy quickly captures your imagination, while a unique contrast of bounce and drive pushes energy into the main break. Clocking in at over a minute in length, angelic vocal wails and emerging atmospheres elevate mood across the centrepiece, as modulation on the lead rises towards a buzzing drop and heady final movement.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation of 'Sands of Time' is East Cafe who returns to the label for his second appearance. As one of Hungary's most revered talents his music has found its way into the sets of Hernan Cattaneo, while appearing on a long list of esteemed imprints, most notably Proton Music, Soundteller Records and Sudbeat. Having made his Clubsonica debut in 2017 with a well received remix of 'Resurge' by Juan Deminicis, East Cafe now returns with a powerful take on 'Sands of Time'. Full and driving, the groove commands a large presence, as percussive waves and arpeggiated rhythms adorn the framework. Evolving with a veteran's savvy, smooth chord changes provide waves of emotion, while hopeful atmospheres segue into the main break. Warm bassy swells and wispy effects highlight the centrepiece, delivering heartfelt moments, before a rush of beats and drums unite for a powerful drop. An inspired remix from East Cafe which rounds out an impressive Clubsonica debut for Lio Q, Anhauser and Nicolas Leonelli, a trio who continues their steady rise as 2020 comes to a close.
