EANP – Genesis EP [Or Two Strangers]

Antrim’s Or Two Strangers continues a strong spring season by welcoming EANP to the label for their debut EP. Having worked together since 2014 it wasn’t until 2018 that Ezequiel Anile & Nicolas Petracca decided to coin the EANP alias for their collaborative efforts. The moniker has taken off and seen them land releases on Balance Music, Beatfreak and UV, while earning continued support from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Now making their first appearance on Or Two Strangers, EANP present their ‘Genesis’ EP.

Spread across three tracks it’s the title and showcase piece which gets the journey underway. Tough beats, rumbling bass tones and detailed percussion set the piece in motion, as indistinct vocals and striking stabs fill in the framework. Granular sweeps only add to its widescreen appeal, bringing ominous moments as the vocal continues to evolve leading into the break. The narrative shifts dramatically here as the darkness washes away into a poignant piano motif and warm overlays, before clustered drums setup a powerfultransition into a dark finale.

The EP’s second selection ‘Serenity’ follows suit with a unique contrast of melody and groove. Once again, a dark vocal narrative runs through the piece, while a buoyant foundation and symphonic synths elevate mood and energy across the first act. Tension rises as the main break unfolds, with shifting harmonics and fragmented melodies converging for a powerful crescendo, ultimately leading to a romping third act.

Travelling further into arcane territory the release is rounded out with ‘Green Ranger’. On a backbone of commanding beats and chugging bass stabscomes a storyboard ofmetallic synths to fully saturate your senses. Unpredictable and astral in equal measure, the ever-evolving lead is juxtaposed with subtle sweeps, buzzing rhythms and detailed percussion;while a perfectly executed break shifts energy into a groovy drop. A unique creation from EANP,capping off an inspired collection of music from the Argentinean duo, making their debut for Or Two Strangers a most memorable one.
