Gaston Ponte – Circle of Life [Soundteller Records]

Presenting his first new music of 2020 Gaston Ponte returns to Deersky's Soundteller records with 'Circle of Life'. Since making his label debut in November of 2017 the Polish imprint has acted as a primary home for the Argentinean artist. With the backing of play from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren the Buenos Aires resident remains one of his country's fastest rising progressive music talents. Now getting his 2020 off to a great start he returns to Soundteller with a three track artist showcase.

Beginning with the tranquil sounds of the title cut you get an immediate sense that Gaston has once again stretched his sonic palette. Tastefully melodic, it's bouncy arps and melancholic atmospheres unite for a gorgeous first act. Bassy tones and exotic drums add depth and rhythm, before segueing into a moderately tense break which carries a lovely sense of refinement. A smooth build is executed through subtle modulation and a wave of while noise, perfectly setting up a rousing finale.

Continuing with ‘Sometimes’ Gaston brings a bit more energy with heavier percussion and a greater sense of drive. What's not lost though is that icy atmospheric quality which made it's predecessor so distinctive. Add to that an intriguing vocal loop, catchy lead synth and a well executed break and you've got something to bring fire to your dance floor.

Rounding out the release are the deeper more reflective qualities of 'System’. Perhaps the most techno oriented of the three, it relies on dynamic percussive moments and hypnotic arps to carry it's stripped back groove. Once again a distinctive vocal sample adds intrigue while an esoteric tonal theme highlights the main break. Perhaps the most unique moment on the release, there is an uncommon emotion conveyed here, both creative and highly memorable it makes for an intriguing conclusion to a superb collection of music from Gaston. Highly recommended.
