Aeikus – Asteroide [Soundteller Records]

Aeikus returns to Deersky's Soundteller Records with a brand new EP entitled 'Asteroide'. Hailing from Brazil, Athos Araujo aka Aeikus first appeared on the Polish imprint in December with a contribution to the label's 'Vibrant Vibeland #6' collection. Also finding a home on Clubsonica and Dear Deer, Aeikus now presents his first EP for Soundteller Records.

Spread across three tracks it's the techno inspired vibes of 'Pallas' which leads the release off. Also quite organic, it's stripped framework provides the backbone for a variety of interesting designs. Most prominent perhaps is a metallic arp, which brings moments of buzzing intensity, particularly during the first part of the main break, but it's the drop which perfectly sets the stage for an unpredictable string of raspy stabs that makes for a fresh and exciting finale.

The second selection ‘Apophis' continues the darker ethos of the EP with bleak moods and eerie keys. Rugged beats set the piece in motion as a rolling groove and frayed percussion encase the framework. Ominous motifs come in full force, quite devilish sounding, eventually stripping down into a gloomy break. Short and impactful, the centrepiece takes you on an oppressive journey, culminating with trailing effects and indistinct keys giving way to the monstrous kick for a strong finish.

The release concludes with the quirky 'Vesta' which offsets the darker moods of the previous two selections. Playful in nature, it's bouncy cadence and esoteric feel is quite unique with luminous tones and timely effects fully saturating your pleasure centres. The main break further expands the narrative as tones blossom with gentle waves building into a tastefully executed vortex before eventually giving way to a groovy finale. It rounds out three inspired tracks from Aeikus who continues to be one of the more unique artists operating in the progressive underground.
