Dowden & Adrian Roman – White Rain [Clubsonica Records]

The latest release from Clubsonica Records welcomes Dowden and Adrian Roman to the label for their debut single. The former sits as one of Canada's premiere progressive house talents, having earned the support of top international DJs such as Armin Van Buuren, Guy Manztur and John OO Fleming, while finding a home on Beatfreak, Soundteller and JOOF Recordings. The latter, hailing from Spain boasts a similarly impressive resume with releases on Asymmetric Recordings, Beatfreak and Uner's Solar Distance. Having worked together once previously on DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique, Dowden and Adrian now debut on Clubsonica with 'White Rain', alongside remixes from Dmitry Molosh and Simos Tagias.

Beginning with the original mix its clear the duo's creative synergy has only grown since their first collaborative effort. Tough beats, clattering drums and an ominous effects narrative begin the seven-minute journey. Senses heighten as astral synths and hypnotic arps unite across a foreboding backdrop. Anticipatory and tense, the main break saturates your senses with phasing noise, before a bed of sizzling electronics sparks a timely drop and thrilling finale.

The first interpretation of 'White Rain' is provided by Dmitry Molosh who makes a welcome return to the label. Having made his Clubsonica debut in 2016 with a contribution to the labels ADE Sampler, the Belarus native has since gone on to provide two additional singles while also showcasing his music on Cid Inc's Replug Records, Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren's Hope Recordings. Now following a remix of Quivver's 'Forest Moon', Dmitry returns to Clubsonica with a powerful rendition of 'White Rain'. Backed by a chunky, house inspired groove, Dmitry has carved out a strong foundation, complemented with rhythmic pulses and percussive drive. Club friendly in design yet hypnotic in delivery, it's fragmented motifs and hopeful overlays slowly engulf the framework, eventually carrying the piece into an emotive break. As the groove strips down, harmonic phrases converge, opening up for moments of reflective warmth, before a rush of drums shifts energy into a groovy finale.

Providing the second and final interpretation of 'White Rain' is Simos Tagias returns to the label for his second appearance. As one of the most recognized names in progressive house, the Athens resident has showcased his music on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Cid Inc's Replug Records. Having made his Clubsonica debut in 2018 with a well received remix of Armandhe's 'Ozadya', Simos now returns with a peak time take on 'White Rain'. Taking a cue from the original while adding a techno state of mind, the Greek artist carves out a dynamic groove adorned with astral sonics, firing drums and fresh rhythmic themes. Devilish stabs and cosmic arps continue to push momentum forward, before melting down into a cavernous break. Emotive yet tense, the one-minute interlude is a delight, with it's mind-bending modulation and methodical build ending in a trail of sonic decay and striking re-entry. It caps off a hugely successful project from Dowden and Adrian Roman, one which makes for a unique release and further solidifies Clubsonica's place amongst progressive music's elite labels.
