The Loco – Supreme [Early Origin]

6 min read

The latest release from Early Origin finds label boss The Loco returning for a new single. The Russian born, China based artist has had an impressive year thus far with releases for Balkan Connection and Balkan United highlighting his 2020 discography. Now following a well received remix for Deepwibe Underground, The Loco lands back on Early Origin with 'Supreme' alongside remixes from Monograph and Xiasou.

Beginning with the Original Mix The Loco explores the deep, hypnotic spectrum of progressive music. On a bed of tough beats and grinding rhythms, comes powerful claps and retro arps. Layers of drums add a frantic, tense feel to the narrative leading into the first of two breaks. The interludes serve to wash away tension and unveil a gorgeous lead theme. Soulful and reflective, it sits perfectly under a wave of drums which build to a powerful crescendo and strong finale.

The first interpretation of 'Supreme' is provided by Monograph who make their label debut. The cross continental duo have enjoyed a busy year thus far with three well received singles released in April, May and July respectively. This prolific prowess has seen them earn the praise of progressive music tastemakers Nick Warren and Guy J. Now debuting on Early Origin, Monograph take 'Supreme' into darker territory. The main themes are downplayed wonderfully here, deconstructed into clustered tones over top of a tight modern framework. Rough stabs add just the right amount of grit, while a near two minute break delivers all the drama you could ever want. Definitely one that should go down very well on the dance floor.

The second and final interpretation of 'Supreme' is provided by Xiasou who also makes his label debut. Born in Germany, Xiasou now calls Greece home where he continues to delight old school progressive fans with his releases on Another Life Music, BC2 and Movement Recordings. Now making a welcome debut on Early Origin, Xiasou rounds out the release with a hypnotic rendition of 'Supreme'. It’s deliberate cadence is nicely accentuated with punchy kicks, driving percussion and an array of cascading arps. Drifting effects and esoteric design further the storyboard, leading to a trance inspired break. The build is slow and subtle as muted kicks and epic lines rise, eventually getting surrounded with glowing atmospheres for a heartfelt finale. It caps off an impressive release for Early Origin which sees label boss The Loco delivering one of his most memorable creations to date. Highly recommended.
