Rikken – Frozen World [Soundteller Records]

Deersky's Soundteller Records welcomes more fresh talent to the label with Rikken making his debut. The German artist first appeared on the electronic underground in September of 2018 with a contribution to Incepto Music's 'Deep Hybrid' collection. Subsequent releases for PHW Elements, Siona Records, Yin and his own languages music imprint helped solidify Rikken as a talented newcomer. Now following a release on Supacooks' Kitchen Recordings, the Berlin resident debuts on Soundteller with 'Frozen World'.

Spread across two tracks it’s the groovy vibes of the title selection which gets the EP underway. Tastefully modern yet a touch nostalgic, it’s a melodic journey which stimulates your mind. Spacious groves, clustered arps and an array of incandescent atmospheres unite across this near nine minute journey. The main break sits as one of it's strongest highlights, a heartfelt centrepiece which should find admiration from old and new progressive music fans, while the drop sits perfectly amongst today's finest melodic house and techno stylings.

Rounding out the release is the equally excellent 'Burning World'. Coming in a touch tougher and more aggressive it's grinding groove and deliberate cadence have an incredible nose for the dance floor. Rising overlays continue to elevate tension and mood across the first act, before eventually releasing during the main break as a series of granular swells segue into a more emotive finale. It rounds out a sensational EP from Rikken who debuts on Soundteller with some of his most creative work to date. Highly recommended.
