Paula OS – Pearl [Sound Avenue]

Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint follows up their 100th release by welcoming Paula OS to the label for her first ever solo single 'Pearl'. Born in Chile but now Buenos Aires based, Paula shot into the electronic music spotlight in 2016 with her vocal work on Jos & Eli's 'Walking On Water'. Released through long standing German imprint Einmusika, it set the course for what has been a remarkable two year stretch. Paula has since gone on to collaborate with some of progressive music's most esteemed talents in Antrim and Kamilo Sanclemente. 2017 saw Sound Avenue label boss Madloch introduce Paula's sublime vocals into his well received Magician On Duty single 'Deserts & Snow'. A friendship and mutual respect developed between the two artists, eventually leading to the present with Paula's first and much anticipated solo single coming courtesy of Sound Avenue, alongside remixes from Powel and Adam Nathan.

Although best known for her sensual vocals, Paula's incredible production skills now get introduced to the world with 'Pearl'. Beginning with a near two minute intro, the emotive core is unearthed through rippling rhythms and a heartrending vocal; the latter of which trails off in a haze of sonic dust as the beats drop into a redolent first act. An audio travelogue of sorts, with drifting harmonics, subtle shades and creamy tones creating a symphony of sound. Smooth and emotive, it's an ambitious sound story from the Chilean, one which will touch your heart and explore your deepest, most sensitive memories.

The first interpretation of 'Pearl' is provided by Powel who makes his Sound Avenue debut here. With releases on All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, Do Not Sit and Sol Selectas, the Berlin-based artist has compiled a stunning catalog since first appearing in 2012. Proficient at creating harmonious illusions of sound, Powel always finds a way to craft natural elegance and tasteful patience into his compositions. His interpretation of 'Pearl' follows this ethos perfectly with a groovy yet impassioned take that's nicely dialled for a dreamier dance floors. Layered beats and exotic percussion set the perfect foundation for Paula's sentimental vocals to work their magic. An evolving narrative sees rhythmic shifts and radiant atmospheres bring an effortless, hip swinging cadence, before melting down into one final break as the vocal resurfaces for a reflective finale.

The release concludes with Adam Nathan also making his label debut and providing the second and final interpretation of 'Pearl'. The London born, Toronto based artist made his debut in February of 2017 with 'Soulmachine'. Coming courtesy of the long standing Viva Recordings imprint, the three track offering was not only well received amongst A-list DJs but also enjoyed an extended stay in Beatport's Deep House chart. Adam has also found a place in Toronto's burgeoning nightlife, with gigs at two of cities most highly regarded venues in Coda and One Loft. The first quarter of 2019 has yielded further success, with the Canadian artist releasing two well received remixes for The Purr Music and RYNTH. Now making his much anticipated Sound Avenue debut, Adam rounds the release out with a stunning take on 'Pearl'. Deep and soulful, the mood rises as layers of drums and wistful atmospheres build across tepid beats. Undeniably late night, it's hypnotic appeal grows subtly, as gentle piano stabs evolve into clustered creativities, while fragmented vocals and hazy gates transfer energy into a poignant break. Transcendent in delivery, impassioned wails pierce the air on a bed of muted beats, before effortlessly segueing into a heartfelt finale. It caps off a trio of stunning Sound Avenue debuts, from three artists who have a compelling story to tell.
