MUUI – Relevant Symmetry III [ICONYC]

John Johnson's ICONYC closes out the month of April with new remixes of MUUI's 'Relevant Symmetry'. Originally released in late 2019, the two track offering was the Berlin based artist's debut on the US imprint. Dark, mysterious and haunting across nearly eighteen minutes, Parts 1 and 2 found their way into a wide selection of DJ sets and Beatport's Progressive House sales charts. Now as 2021 enters it's spring season, ICONYC revisits the release with new interpretations from D-Nox & Ed Steele and Mononoid.

The first interpretation is provided by D-Nox & Ed Steele who make their label debut. Hailing from Germany but now based in Argentina, D-Nox has continued to thrill fans with both cutting edge music and enlightening DJ sets. Whether operating in solo capacity or as one half of D-Nox and Beckers, the German artist has lays claim to an impressive resume, highlighted by releases on Bedrock Records, Selador and Sudbeat Music. Hailing from the UK is Ed Steele who first came to our attention in 2020 with releases via Balkan Connection, One Of A Kind and D-Nox's Sprout imprint. Having worked together previously on a remix for Solarii Records, D-Nox and Ed now join forces once again with a stellar interpretation of 'Relevant Symmetry'. Drawing on the sensibilities of the original the duo lean closer to peak time territory, with a reworked groove, clattering percussion and a wide array of stunning effects. Smooth chord changes across the low end add a tastefully emotive twist to the journey, while a well constructed break brings all the tension needed to light up a dance floor.

Returning to the label and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Relevant Symmetry’ is Mononoid. Residing in the Netherlands, Andy Godderis and Igor Shumlyanskiy make up the Mononoid production duo. Upon partnering in 2011, a string of releases on Traum got their career off to a great start. Consistently pushing creative boundaries over the last decade, their unique take on electronic music has since been showcased on storied labels such as Beatfreak, Beat Boutique, Einmusika and Stil Vor Talent. Having last appeared on ICONYC in November of last year with their 'Hinterland' single, Andy and Igor now return with a powerful rendition of 'Relevant Symmetry'. Electrically charged with tough beats and a tighter take on the groove, it’s pulsating energy beams brightly from the outset. Combining dark rhythms, devilish effects and detailed percussion makes for a sleek yet exhilarating first act. Haunting overlays provide a smooth bridge into the break, before melting down to a prophetic soundscape as the groove drops for a growling finale. A huge interpretation from Mononoid which rounds out a star-studded remix edition for MUUI's 'Relevant Symmetry'. Highly recommended.
