Mir Omar – Until November [3rd Avenue]

Madloch's 3rd Avenue returns welcoming Mir Omar to the label for his debut single. Residing in New York, Mir Omar has carved out a unique place in the progressive house underground. His smooth and deeply emotive creations have already earned the praise of Herman Cattaneo while landing him releases on Solarstone's Pure Progressive imprint and John O'Callaghan's Subculture. Having recently released a remix courtesy of parent label Sound Avenue, the US artist now makes his debut on the imprint's progressive minded offshoot. 'Until November' hits in a timely fashion and comes alongside remixes from Rory James, Paul Angelo and Don Argento and Matt Altman.

As Omar has become more widely regarded his penchant for crafting emotive progressive house has only grown. 'Until November' comes in as one of his finest to date with remarkable fluidity and creamy design qualities. Charming from the outset, it's warm beats and rolling low end are quickly engulfed by hopeful atmospheres and aquatic designs, the latter of which prove to be quite compelling. Spiralling motifs initiate the main break while reflective pads add an impassioned vibe, before timely modulation builds to a classy apex as the chugging groove drops for an emotive finale.

The first interpretation of 'Until November' is provided by Rory James who makes his label debut here. The US artist and DJ has been a fixture of New York's nightlife for over a decade, having shared the booth with Sasha, Cid Inc, Gai Barone and many other top international talents. His highly regarded 'The Turning Point' radioshow has been running for over five years and remains a favourite amongst progressive music fans, while also playing host to MUUI and Stelios Vassiloudis. Rory has been quiet on the production front since 2016 when he contributed the lead track to 'Nova', a concept collection released by Tim Penner's Slideways Music. Now with the demand for new material at an all time high, Rory turns in a superb rendition of 'Until November'. Radically overhauled, the low end opens up for a dark and rugged vibe while a string of devilish effects fill in the framework. Clocking in at over two minutes in length, the main break is a journey into tripped out motifs and percussive flurries, perfectly setting up a sinister apex and driving finale, which recalls some of Yunus Guvenen's finest work.

The second interpretation of 'Until November' is provided by Paul Angelo and Don Argento who return to the label for their second appearance. The Cyprus based duo have achieved remarkable success over the last calendar year. Releases on Soundteller Records along with remixes for Beat Boutique and Movement Recordings have been 2018 highlights. Now landing back on 3rd Avenue they put a pure progressive spin on 'Until November'. Binding rhythmic flow with rugged stabs and mystical atmospheres makes for an electric first act. A perfect prelude of sorts, as dynamic hits and emotive harmonics lead effortlessly into the main break, building subtly across an emotive reservoir, before a flurry of drums ignites an epic finale.

The release concludes with Matt Altman making his label debut and providing the final interpretation of 'Until November'. Based in Brooklyn by way of Philadelphia, Matt rose to prominence in 2015 by winning New York's EDC Discovery Project. Now with an EP for Tim Penner's Slideways Music along with more recent offerings on Mephyst, the US artist continues to explore dark heady techno as witnessed by his stunning take on 'Until November'. The tempo shifts up as dark punchy beats and paranoid electronics get offset with a smooth meditative backdrop. Building with a fiery flair, acid clusters and shifting noise continue to deliver tension and drama before ultimately building to a sonic sizzle for a heady conclusion. It rounds out what is a diverse and exciting package from 3rd Avenue who have covered a lot of bases here.
