Diego Poblets – Escape [Reeload Records]

Diego Poblets returns to his Reeload Records imprint for a new three track artist EP. Launched in October, Reeload Records is a new vehicle for Argentinean artist Diego Poblets. A home for his own productions and for his friends and contemporaries, the label looks to showcase the best in progressive and organic house. With a career spanning well over a decade, Diego has showcased his music via Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, Antrim's Or Two Strangers and Madloch's Sound Avenue. Now following up his well received 'Avalanchas' EP, Diego returns to Reeload with 'Escape'.

Spread across three tracks it’s the progressive grooves of the title selection which get the EP underway. Dark and hypnotic from the outset, it’s punchy low end and buoyant rhythms provide momentous drive, while ghostly vocals and liquid-like arps fill in the framework. Stripping down into the main break, the narrative expands, as placid overlays and creamy keys provides moments of warmth and emotion, eventually getting washed away into groovy drop and chugging finale.

The second selection ‘Whispers’ follows a similar sonic ethos with a further lean into percussive territory. Beginning with a rolling groove the piece moves with discernible momentum as layers of organic drums and striking chord stabs converge for an powerful core. A spacey arp shifts the narrative further into cosmic territory as the main break commences, before airy vocals and warm bass swells provide an emotional bridge into an exhilarating third act.

The third and final selection ‘Nova’ follows suit with a muscular, progressive vibe that rounds out the release nicely. Beginning with bulbous beats and exotic drums, it’s rhythmic appeal quickly captures your imagination. Waves of bleepy arps and timely percussive splashes play out across the first act, as choir-like overlays lead into the main break. Processed pianos stand out as the centrepiece begins, slowly shifting back to the astral arp and vocal overlays for thumping drop. Perfect for the more astute progressive music connoisseur, it caps off three excellent tracks from Diego, who continues to build some nice momentum with his Reeload imprint. Highly recommended.
