Axel Giova – Proton [Eat My Hat Music]

Opening the summer season, Ziger's Eat My Hat Music welcomes Axel Giova back to the label for a new single. Hailing from Argentina, Axel Giova first emerged in 2020 with a release via Omnia Rec. On the strength of remixes from Kamilo Sanclemente, the EP found a near perfect balance between organic, melodic and progressive house. The next three calendar years would see further successes for Axel, landing standout releases for Freegrant Music, Magnitude Recordings and Steyoyoke. Having made his Eat My Hat debut earlier this year with the well-received 'Crescendo', Axel now makes a welcome return to the label with 'Proton', alongside remixes from Mind Conspiracy and Sundrej Zohar.

Continuing what has been a great start to the year, Axel steps forward with 'Proton' which showcases his originality and sophistication as an artist. Anchored by a deep, chugging groove and smooth rhythmic pulses, the energy is fluid from the outset. Haunting tones and icy pads steal the air as the first act evolves, elegantly moving through a forest of finely tuned percussion and wispy effects. Carrying into the main break, astral sonics add mightily to the narrative, marrying beautifully with the interlude's darker monochromes for a prophetic finale.

Returning to the label for the first interpretation of 'Proton' is Mind Conspiracy. As one of Eat My Hat's core contributors, Greek artist Mind Conspiracy has emerged as premiere talent within the melodic house and techno landscape. Coming off a strong 2022 which yielded seven originals and two remixes, Mind Conspiracy began the year with his latest Eat My Hat vehicle 'Rock Solid', a two-track showcase which saw the Athens resident continue to find a perfect balance between melodic and progressive house. Now, as we enter the summer season Mind Conspiracy makes a welcome return to the label with a deeper take on 'Proton'. A perfect balance of warmth and drive provides the foundation for fluid rhythms, rolling arps and flickering percussion to work their magic. Sleeker and more hypnotic than the original, its strong astral phrasing resonates across the first act, as icy sonics provide a bridge into the main break, relieving tension for moments of otherworldly warmth, as a classy drop cues a meditative finale.

The release concludes with Sundrej Zohar making his label debut with the second and final interpretation of 'Proton'. Based in Germany, Sundrej Zohar first emerged on the strength of his Breakdancer and Black Sun EPs in 2019. Immediately recognized for his melodic sound, the Saarbrücken resident would go on to record projects for Area Verde, Freegrant Music, Pillar, Sunexplosion and more. Now, adding Eat My Hat to his resume, Sundrej debuts on the label with a cosmic rendition of 'Proton'. Tight and driving, the groove commands a large presence as astral sonics and ethereal sweeps adorn the framework. Evolving with a veteran's savvy, timely drops and tasteful modulation provide a wave of rising tension, as bleepy chord stabs continue to push momentum forward. The main break delivers further drama, as cinematic ambience eventually gives to striking sonics and ghostly effects, all perfectly intertwined and setting the stage for a mystical conclusion.
