Just Movement opens the summer season by welcoming Alan Cerra to the label for his debut EP. Based in Argentina, Alan first appeared on the progressive music scene in 2019 with a contribution to 3rd Avenue’s popular ‘We Are The Future’ series. 2020 then proved to be a breakout year, with Alan showcasing his music via Antrim’s Strangers Beats, Miss Monique’s Siona Records, Michael A’s Genesis Music and D-Formation’s Beatfreak Limited. Now in a year that has seen further successes Alan debuts on Just Movement with ‘Eudamonia’ alongside remixes from Tash and Hobin Rude.

Beginning with the title track Alan explores the peak time side of progressive minded house. Its warm groove is perfectly contoured, rippling with infectious undulation and adorned with finely tuned percussion, quirky effects and crunchy rhythms. A siren-like theme emerges across the first act, taking the journey into epic territory, before smoothly transitioning into the main break. Tension and emotion unite as the centrepiece takes shape, before sizzling effects, alien-like arps and flurries of drums provide a massive crescendo and deadly finale. The companion piece ‘Cabrub’ continues the energetic ethos of its predecessor with a rolling groove, lively rhythms and waves of fluid percussion. Positively charged from the outset, the piece flows through buoyant rhythmic structures and lively arps, before a dramatic break advances the narrative with rising modulation and a crushing drop which spearheads a massive final movement.

The first interpretation of ‘Eudamonia’ is provided by Tash who returns to the label for his seventh appearance. The Greek artist and Movement Recordings founder has been a primary fixture of the electronic music underground for well over a decade. In addition to hosting some of Greece’s finest events, Tash has also released his music on a host of quality imprints, most notably Beat Boutique, Beatfreak, FSOE and UV. Now in a year that has seen Tash be his most prolific to date he returns to Just Movement with a powerful remix of ‘Eudamonia’. Staying true to the main themes from the original the Movement boss opens up the framework for a modern feel, while reprocessed effects and joyous overlays unite in a colourful symphony of sound. The second of two breaks furthers the remixes emotional appeal, gently teasing the senses, before melting down to a bed of quirky electronics and a groovy drop.

The second and final interpretation of ‘Eudamonia’ is provided by Hobin Rude who makes his label debut. The Serbian artist has made significant strides since first appearing a year ago with a release on I AM DIFFERENT. Long standing progressive music imprints Balkan Connection, Electronic Tree, Mistique Music and Massive Harmony Records have played host to the Belgrade resident’s uplifting sound. Now stepping up for his first appearance on Just Movement, Hobin rounds out the release with a heady rendition of ‘Eudamonia’. Opting for a slightly deeper approach, the Serbian artist relies on rhythm and groove to carry the narrative, while a less distinct take on the lead elements provides a subtle yet powerful emotional response. A touch edgier and more otherworldly than the original, it’s a worthy complement and no doubt perfect for a progressive minded dance floor. A stunning remix from Hobin which rounds out an excellent Just Movement debut for Alan Cerra. Don’t miss it.
