Various Artists – GLBLMVMT7 – Exploring Greece [Movement Recordings]

The latest release on Tash's Movement Recordings finds the label showcasing the seventh installment of its 'GLBLMVMT' series. These region-specific compilations were first unveiled in 2018 with Federico Monachesi curating the progressive hotbed of Argentina. Moving forward, the label has unveiled a new edition each year, with Colombia, Cyprus, India, France and Sri Lanka being the chosen destinations, expertly curated by NuFects, Paul and Don, Aaryan, Wielki and Kyotto across the next four years. Now unveiling the seventh and much anticipated edition, Movement calls upon George Theodoridis aka Theologic to curate the label's home country of Greece, with exclusive new music from Themis Georgoudis, Billka, Theologic, Danny Alpha, MANNER, Nico Repits and Reflect Future.

Selection one welcomes Themis Georgoudis back to the label for his second appearance. Hailing from Greece, Themis Georgoudis first emerged in 2021 with a contribution to UPFILTER's 'Sub Sessions' series. Immediately recognized for his progressive sound, the Thessaloniki resident would go on to release his debut album 'Phases' (also ℅ UPFILTER) later that same year; a project which would start a creative swell of releases for Cafe De Anatolia, DP-6 Records, Go Deeva Records and more across the next two calendar years. Movement Recordings has also been a landing spot for Themis, with his label debut coming last year with ‘This Moment Is Your Life’, a track which featured on the ‘ProgNoesis’ compilation series. Now, making a welcome return to the label, Themis unveils his latest studio creation ‘Rhythm of Lust’, a groovy progressive cut with memorable vocal elements.

Making his label debut with selection two is Billka. With a career that stretches the better part of two decades, Vasilis Karras aka Billka has more than etched his place in Greece’s electronic music underground. As a DJ he has performed all across the country, showcasing his unique taste and impeccable programming skills. Perhaps better known as a producer however, Billka has a discography which dates back to 2013 and is highlighted by releases via Mango Alley, Meanwhile and The Soundgarden, which have earned him support from Above & Beyond, Adriatique, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Tale Of Us. Continuing on an upwards trajectory as 2024 winds to a close, Billka now debuts on Movement Recordings with the vocal-led progressive piece ‘Falling Down’.

Selection three is provided by the collection’s curator Theologic who makes his label debut with his first official release. Hailing from Thessaloniki, Theologic has been a fixture of Greece’s nightlife as a DJ for many years. With a unique combination of dark grooves and soulful atmospheres, Theologic remains a consistently in demand DJ, often performing alongside Movement label boss Tash and other Greek legends such as Nikola Gala. Now, looking to make his mark as a producer, Theologic debuts on Movement Recordings with the dark ethereal sounds of ‘Gloria’.

Moving forward to selection four, Danny Alpha makes his label debut with ‘System Malfunction’. Hailing from Thessaloniki, Danny Alpha has been celebrated for his innovative and boundary-pushing take on electronic music. His unique production style blends various elements to create a sound which is undeniably his own, while also resonating with a broad range of tastemakers, radio personalities and dancefloors across the globe. While Soho Music Movement has been his primary home over the years, Danny has also showcased his music via Agnosia Records and RPO. With Danny’s latest production ‘December’ landing just three weeks ago, he continues his prolific ways with the astral sounds of his Movement debut ‘System Malfunction’.

The collection’s fifth selection introduces MANNER, a new alias from Celene. Chris Alex aka MANNER hails from Greece and as a core member of the events promotion company 'NoLove', has been a recognized DJ in his country's nightlife for several years. As a producer Chris emerged with an EP via Ziger’s Eat My Hat imprint in 2020, a release which would propel him to future projects for Aletheia, Bonzai Records, Freegrant Music and No Love. Now, adopting the MANNER alias for further sonic endeavors, the Thessaloniki resident debuts on Movement with the anthemic trance-inspired sounds of ‘Escape Reality’.

For selection six we welcome Nico Repits to the label with ‘Bitter Chocolate’. As a DJ for well over a decade, Thessaloniki resident Nico Repits has made his mark on Greece’s vibrant nightlife. With his unique amalgamation of tech house and techno, Nico has the distinction of opening for international talents such as Argy, Indira Paganotto and Sasha. As a producer, Nico first emerged in 2020 with a well-received EP via Raw Forms, a release which would propel him to future projects with Habitat, Musicoterapia Records and Time Has Changed across the next three calendar years. Now, presenting his first project of 2024, Nico debuts on Movement with the retro tech-house vibes of ‘Bitter Chocolate’.

Rounding out the release are label debutantes Reflect Future with their first official release ‘Nothingness’. Thessaloniki residents Reflect Future have been refining their dark atmospheric sound across the last half-decade. Characterized by haunting pads and melodies, the duo’s creations take the listener on a journey through the depths of emotion, whereby elements of electronic and ambient create an experience that is both immersive and memorable. Getting their production career off to a promising start, Reflect Future now makes their Movement Recordings debut with the deep mesmerizing qualities of ‘Nothingness’.
