Matias Larrosa, Martin Gardoqui ft. Sarah Chilanti – You [pad]

pad records begins the new year by welcoming Matias Larrosa & Martin Gardoqui to the label for their debut single. Frequent studio partners for some time, the Argentinean duo have landed releases on some of progressive music's elite imprints, most notably Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank Records, Lonya’s Asymmetric Recordings, GU Music and Steyoyoke. Now presenting their first project of 2021, Matias and Martin debut on pad with 'You', alongside a remix from Luciano Scheffer.

Continuing to diversify their portfolio, the Argentinean duo join forces with vocalist Sarah Chilanti on the title and showcase piece ‘You’. Once again operating at a creative peak, Matias and Martin craft an gorgeous storyboard of punchy beats, emotive electronics and buoyant percussion. It’s this fluid concoction which perfectly sets the stage for Sarah’s heavenly vocals. Ghostly and poignant in equal measure, they descend over the pulsating framework, while sections of cosmic effects advance the storyboard on wards to an otherworldly finale. The dreamy vibes of the companion piece ‘Botsuana’ are perhaps an ideal complement to its predecessor. Smooth and rolling, the undulating framework gets adorned with bubbly arps, redolent shades and hopeful overlays. It’s emotive presence quickly becomes enlightening, as timely transitions and a heartfelt break elicit a poignant response, before an classy crescendo transfers energy into an evocative final act.

The lone interpretation of 'You' is provided by Luciano Scheffer who also makes his label debut. Coming up on nearly a decade in the progressive music scene, the Brazilian artist has evolved into one of the genre's beloved artists through releases on Antrim's Or Two Strangers, Balkan Connection and Clubsonica Records. Always an in demand remixer, Luciano begins his 2021 journey with a stunning rendition of 'You'. Drawing on the sensibilities of the original the Ribeirão Pires resident leans in a more pure progressive direction, with a reworked groove and spacious rhythmic core. Sarah's vocals sound gorgeous, processed and fragmented, adding perfectly to the warm, pulsating underbelly below. Colourful and trippy, the centrepiece eventually melts down to a wondrous synth display, elevating mood as buzzing effects cue an exhilarating final movement. An amazing remix from Luciano which caps off a brilliant second offering from pad, a label who gets 2021 off to a strong start. Highly recommended.
