Dale Middleton – Nans [Flow Vinyl]

The latest release from Flow Vinyl welcomes Dale Middleton back to the label for a brand new EP. The UK artist last appeared on the Portuguese imprint in February of 2016 with his 'Coruscate' EP. Recent outings for Plattenbank, SOSO and his own Tarnished Tracks imprint have all been sensational, not to mention another hugely successful tour of Argentina just last month. Now making a much anticipated return to Flow Vinyl Dale presents his latest EP entitled 'Nans'.

Dale has always treaded the waters between progressive house and techno with an effortless ease. This EP once again showcases sensibilities from both with the lead track sitting comfortably in the latter. The UK artist's neatly tailored production is on display here once again with crisp, detailed design and an electric mood that's sure to be fire on the dance floor. When Dale does veer towards techno he's got this metallic sound which tends to dominate the lead elements, making for an epic yet deliberate feel which is extremely powerful. Combine that with great vocal stabs and a rough, rugged groove and you've got a dance floor smash in the making.

The remaining two cuts sit as a perfect complement as focus shifts to something slightly more melodic without losing the core techno sensibilities. Bold and distinctive in equal measure, 'One For Mum' flows through a journey of catchy arps and tasteful modulation, while a warm underbelly of chord changes provides just the right emotional response. The release concludes with 'Doma' which ups the tempo and stylistically sits between 'Nans' and 'One For Mum' quite nicely. It's growling groove is immediately powerful, while clap clusters along with daring arps and detuned melodies make for an exhilarating eight minute journey. There's something a touch reflective sitting at the heart of this one making it a perfect way to round out the EP. Three sensational tracks from Dale which I would have to think were major highlights of his recent gigs. Now sure to be a staple in many DJ sets over the coming months. Highly recommended.
