Releases 2 Reels – Whistle in the Wind [Salt Records] By Release Promo Posted on 2nd March 2019 0 second read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Salt Records makes an impressive debut with a new single from 2 Reels. Hailing from Los Angeles, Chris Grim and Ethan Healthcote make up the 2 Reels production team, and alongside UK artist and former Segment Records owner Matt Black have come together to form Salt Records. Looking to showcase the best in electronic music the label’s inaugural release lands with remixes from Brent Lawson and Zed White. Beginning with the original mix, 2 Reels craft a top notch slice of hypno-prog. Backed by a stripped, punchy framework it’s techno leanings are undeniable but it’s expertly crafted narrative and attention to detail makes it a supremely effective cross over creation. A bevy of buzzing synths intertwine, fading in and out of the stereo field, ultimately leading to an astral break and suitably cosmic finale. Chris and Ethan have also included a ‘Nuclear Summer’ Mix which reshapes the elements into a more emotive representation of the piece. Still nicely dialled for the dance floor it’s percussive cadence, layered beats and atmospheric scope give it a rather large presence. It’s a mood which only grows with timely chord changes and trance-like synth swells providing a memorable finale. Perhaps one to send people home with a smile. First up on the remixes is UK artist Brent Lawson who is fresh off his well received ‘Cognitive Behavior’ single. Released through his Pro B Tech Music imprint, it included remixes from Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile as well as fast rising Paul Deep. A landmark release for the UK artist who had been quiet since his ‘Optimo’ single with Hernan Serrao in July of 2017. Now the Pro-B-Tech label boss lands on Salt Records with a superb interpretation of ‘Whistle In The Wind’. Backed by a galloping groove, the UK artist expertly adds layers of finely tuned percussion and haunting electronics into it’s tight and punchy framework. Timely chord changes bring brief but emotive moments, perfectly setting up a grandiose break which should bring a wealth of magical dance floor moments. Rounding the release out and providing the second and final interpretation of 'Whistle In The Wind' is Zed White. The UK artist lays claim to releases on Bonzai Records, ICONYC and Perfecto which have carved him a unique spot in the progressive trance arena. Now following a single on A Rec to end 2018, Zed presents his first production of 2019 with a stunning remix of 'Whistle In The Wind'. The tempo and drive shift up a notch here for a sizeable dose of euphoric energy. A spacey arp takes centrestage while while buzzing electronics add further fuel to the cosmic fire. The main break shifts the narrative immensely, melting down to a cavernous wasteland of sonic artefacts before expertly reconvening the primary themes for a classy build and hypnotic final act. A powerful remix from Zed which caps off an auspicious debut release for Salt Records, who have staked their claim as a new label to watch as 2019 moves forward.
