Musique de Lune opens the new year by welcoming ZooL to the label for his debut EP. Emerging in 2011, French producer ZooL gained recognition with a string of releases via his D&B Records imprint. The Bergues resident would go on to quickly establish himself within the French electronic scene, producing a brand of deep musical house nicely geared for the dancefloor. Although relatively quiet across the next decade, 2023 would see ZooL re-emerge with a fresh organic style that has found a home on Bekool Records and Cafe De Anatolia. Now, continuing to establish himself as 2024 begins, ZooL makes his Musique de Lune debut with a three-track showcase entitled 'Safaga'.
The title selection 'Safaga' sets the tone for the release with a strong rhythmic swing and charming musicality. Plush tones and vocal fragments layer a warm groove and exotic drums early on, in turn creating a superb club-effective mood. The ultimate highlight though is a clever co-ax of emotive chord stabs and cross-cultural vocals, an intertwined theme which pushes on through a timely break, before raising emotion once more across a soaring final act.
'Paluche' follows suit with a gorgeous array of exotic drums and tasteful piano elements. The evolution of the latter is quite captivating, and undeniably musical; but for as enchanting as it is the journey manages to keep a great dance floor sensibility throughout, all the way to a fluttery break, restrained build and rejuvenating finale.
The release concludes with 'EzO-TeRiQuEs' which is perhaps the most romantic sounding of the three. Clustered tones carry much of the narrative, but the way atmosphere emerges around this theme is quite remarkable, and with a sentimental break sitting at the heart of the track it definitely feels like the perfect way to round out such an excellent collection of music.
