Travis Jesse – Confluence [Soundteller Records]

Coming off a one month hiatus, Deersky's Soundteller Records welcomes Travis Jesse to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Australia but currently based in Argentina, Travis Jesse established himself as an artist to watch in 2020 with a string of projects for Madloch's 3rd Avenue and Future Avenue. Moving forward the Buenos Aires resident would eventually add long-standing progressive imprints Balkan Connection and Massive Harmony Records to his resume, furthering his up and comer status. Now fresh off a two-track EP for Proton's Particles, Travis debuts on Soundteller with 'Confluence'.

Comprised of two tracks, it’s the rolling sounds of the title selection which get the EP underway. Dark and mysterious from the outset, its undulating low end and rippling rhythms provide momentous drive, while airy hooks and haunting atmospheres fill in the framework. Emotive chord changes and choir-like pads continue to elevate mood, before eventually melting down into a calming break. Muted beats and chunky grooves eventually rise out of the warm textural bliss, sparking a thunderous drop and otherworldly finale.

The companion piece ‘No Shortcuts’ surveys a similar design profile but with a further lean into hypnotic territory. Beginning with a warm mountainous groove, the piece evolves with buoyant rhythms, lively percussion and a stunning effects narrative. Meandering melodies and swirling textures break off into an array of shimmering arps and percussive flurries as the interlude reaches a tasteful zenith, ultimately spearheading a driving conclusion to cap off the EP in style. For fans of that nostalgic progressive house sound you'd be hard pressed to find something more representative than these two beauties, making for a superb Soundteller debut for Travis Jesse.
