Releases SIX – More Than A DJ [Musique de Lune Noire] By Release Promo Posted on 25th June 2024 7 min read 0 2 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Musique de Lune's Noire division returns for their second release of the year, welcoming SIX to the label for his debut single. Hailing from Spain, Sixto Fernández aka SIX has racked up close to 25 years as a professional producer, recording nearly eighty singles and six full length albums under a variety of aliases. Renowned for his pristine and no frills approach to production, SIX's coherent, clean and harmonically balanced execution in the creative process are qualities always present during the development of his musical world. Releases via Balance Music and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden have been discography highlights in recent years, as he continues to maneuver his way through the confines of modern electronic music. Now following the release of 'Magic' via 2 Stones Records, SIX makes his Musique de Lune Noire debut with 'More Than A DJ', alongside remixes from Kevin Manning and Sundrej Zohar. SIX's extensive musical background is evident across the Original Mix which leads the release off. A sturdy DJ friendly intro sets the pace with punchy kick drums and orbiting effects flowing smoothly into a break of elastic-like lines. Character-rich and full of great shape this proves to be the backbone of the groove moving forward, as layers of synths and atmosphere bring epic moments as the primary break commences. Although firmly rooted in progressive house there's a darker monochrome across the interlude which brings a unique and potential crossover vibe, before eventually giving way to symphonic synth phrasing and grandiose atmospheres for an unabashedly epic crescendo and finale. First up on the remixes is Kevin Manning who not only makes his label debut but alias debut with his given name as well. Best known for being apart of the Bemannte & Bruder duo who released on Clubsonica and Stripped, the Irish artist now operates solo here, bringing more of a spacious, groovy quality to 'More Than A DJ', a take which complements the original very well. Acid-like lines provide copious amounts of swing and character as retro-stabs and sweeping effects forge a path into the break. The mood shifts quickly here, melting down to meandering sonics and glowing pads for a tastefully emotive moment, perfectly setting up a finale of poignant key changes and rolling grooves. The release concludes with Sundrej Zohar also making his label debut with the second and final interpretation of 'More Than A DJ'. The German artist arrives on Musique de Lune Noire following releases for Eat My Hat, Freegrant Music and UV Noir, where his main room progressive sound continues to find it's way into Beatport's sales charts. Sundrej ups the tempo slightly here and makes great use of the elasticized synths from the original to craft an infectious slice of progressive house. Energetic and anthemic in equal measure, it's woody claps and frenzied percussive flurries work well atop driving beats and warm basslines, with the end result being an epic version to round out the release on a huge note.
