Pea K Five – Aélous [Soundteller Records]

Soundteller Records opens the month of June by welcoming Pea K Five back to the label for a new single. On the strength of a contribution to Akbal Music’s ‘Winter Wonderland’ collection, the French producer made his Soundteller debut in March with the 'Sirocco' EP. His genre bending sound delighted across the two tracks, ultimately leading to his second Soundteller project 'Aélous', alongside remixes from Beije and Hole Box.

Continuing to impress with charming organic narratives is 'Aelous'. Emotionally compelling throughout, it's dulcet beats and dusty percussion delight at the outset, while it's carnival inspired overtones and sleek synth phrasing make for an irresistible first act, before emerging atmospheres blanket the proceedings for a chilling finale.

Making their label debut and providing the first interpretation is Beije. The Canadian duo have enjoyed success since first appearing on Manual Deep just over two years ago. Their enchanting sound has since found a home on 3rd Avenue, Good News Records, Proton's Particles, Hoomidaas and Where The Heart Is. Now adding Soundteller to their discography, Beije provides a charming take on 'Aélous'. It’s a journey played out over eight magical minutes, as the Toronto duo works whimsical motifs and emotive overlays over deep chugging grooves and exotic percussion, resulting in a smooth yet spine tingling journey. A charismatic centrepiece sits at the core of the composition, free flowing through a maze of hazy refrains, before opening up into a radiant glow as the beats drop for a groovy final movement.

Returning to the label and providing the second and final interpretation of 'Aélous' is Hole Box. Approaching a decade long career, the Mexican artist has been prolific across 2021 with releases coming courtesy of Massive Harmony Records, SwitchLab and Telematique, which followed a release on Tale & Tone to round out 2020. Now returning to Soundteller for his first remix, Hole Box dials in a smooth rendition of 'Aélous'. With a more dance floor minded approach Hole Box provides an excellent complement to the original, as bigger beats, aquatic arps and tepid harmonics unite for an elegant journey. Utilized beautifully, the placid atmospheres slowly encase the framework, providing moments of warmth and reflection on wards to a spirited finale. A sensational remix from Hole Box which rounds out a welcome return to Soundteller Records from Pea K Five. Don't miss it.
