New Even – Sonora [Stellar Fountain]

Stellar Fountain rounds out the month of May by welcoming New Even to the label for his debut single. Hailing from Malta, New Even began as a producer duo in 2015, quickly making their mark with releases via Cloudland Music, Exia Recordings and more. Inspired by both trance and progressive sounds, New Even would eventually become a solo act and continued to find success landing projects with 3rd Avenue, Freegrant Music and ICONYC Noir. Now, continuing on an explorative path, New Even debuts on Stellar Fountain with 'Sonora', alongside remixes from HAUMS and Noble Spirits.

Although most of his career New Even has resided in the progressive house genre, 'Sonora' ventures into deeper organic territory. Played out over six concise minutes, it's soulful instrumentation and smooth melodic phrasing are charming to say the least, all backed by a warm exotic framework to keep things firmly on the dancefloor. A moment of tension is reached across the break, building beautifully to a tastefully tweaked crescendo, before ultimately pulling back for a finale that is equal parts percussive and melodic.

The first remix is supplied by HAUMS who makes his label debut following releases for Amulanga and Songuara. Based in the USA and noted for his emotive brand of organic house, HAUMS goes deeper for his 'Sonora' interpretation, slowing the tempo slightly and focusing on a sturdier framework and more direct dancefloor approach. Ghostly vocal wails cleverly coax atop tough beats and phasing sonics, while gentle pianos and misty effects add a surreal beauty to this creative gem.

The release concludes with a third Stellar Fountain debutant Noble Spirits providing the second and final interpretation of 'Sonora'. The Mexican artist and Dialtone label boss follows on from releases via Bekool Records and Mirrors with a gorgeous take on 'Sonora'. Chirpy arps and clattering drums marry well across a warm voluptuous groove, and with a running time of over eight minutes it's a mix which evokes its emotions through slow burn repetition, while painting gorgeous bucolic images to round out the release in fine style.
