Releases Mariz – Move On [Hiato Music] By Release Promo Posted on 5th May 2023 9 min read 0 2 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Continuing to add exciting new talent to their roster, Hiato Music welcomes Mariz to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Brazil, Mariz first emerged with releases via Awen Tales and Three Hands Records. Immediately recognized for his amalgamation of progressive house and melodic techno, the São Paulo resident quickly became a new producer to watch. 2022 would see further successes for Mariz, with a remix for long-standing Brazilian imprint Warung recordings. Also a highly regarded DJ, Mariz has performed at some of his country's finest venues in Warung Beach Club, Sirena and Amazon Club. Now, on the strength of an EP for Running Clouds, Mariz makes his Hiato Music debut with 'Move On', alongside a remix from Ortus & Pedrada. The EP's title selection finds Mariz collaborating with Sensitive (It) who provides vocals on the track. Together the duo craft a production that is equally at home on a peak time dance floor or floating above a festival skyline. Punchy beats and rippling grooves unite for a fluid low end, while spacey effects and striking chord stabs add nicely to its prophetic nature. The narrative evolves as Sensitive's vocals emerge in the mix, bringing an authentic soul to it's cutting edge design and cosmic motifs, onwards to a finale that is equal parts astral and emotive. Providing the lone interpretation of 'Move On' is Ortus & Pedrada who also make their Hiato Music debut here. Based in Brazil, Ortus and Pedrada have achieved measurable success in their respective solo careers. The duo's joint discography is highlighted by releases via Prototype Music, Prisma Techno and Transensations Records, the latter of which Pedrada serves as the label A&R. With a fresh approach to the melodic house and techno genre, Ortus and Pedrada have been tipped as names to watch across the last two calendar years, and now embark on their first collaborative remix, putting their own fresh twist on 'Move On'. Taking a cue from the original while adding a groovier state of mind, the duo carves out a muscular foundation adorned with fiery sonics and charged rhythmic themes. Sweeping effects and striking chord stabs push momentum forward, before melting down into a cavernous break. Tension filled and trance-inducing in equal measure, Ortus and Pedrada take advantage of their keen dancefloor sensibility, letting the primary melodic themes to breathe and steal the air in electric fashion, before a flurry of effects and a trail of sonic decay summons a thunderous drop and suitably charged finale. Also included on the release are two additional solo originals from Mariz, beginning with 'Discovery'. The Brazilian artist builds drama across the first act with devilish synth maneuveres, impactful snares and robotized vocals forging a path into the main break. The primary theme swells further as the interlude takes shape, opening up into a colourful marriage of texture and effects, before getting pulled back as the beats drop and machine gun grooves take you through a spellbinding finale. Meanwhile, EP closer 'Justice' lands with an equally impressive display of craftmanship. Its techno inspired framework, sci-fi vocals and striking percussive arrangements lay the groundwork for retro-arps and phasing synth-swagger to unite across an energetic final movement. Sensational music from Mariz, which rounds out an excellent Hiato debut for himself, Sensitive (It) and Ortus & Pedrada. Highly recommended.
