Mariner + Domingo – Here I Am EP [Stellar Fountain]

Mariner + Domingo continue a remarkable rise with their debut EP for Stellar Fountain. The US duo has taken the progressive and organic house scenes by storm in 2020 via releases on Balkan Connection, One Of A Kind, RYNTH and The Purr. The US artists have an extensive history in electronic music, dating all the way back to the early nineties when the Florida club scene was a central hub for the movement. Fast forward over 25 years and Mariner + Domingo are crafting some of the finest melodic music of the moment. Now making a much anticipated Stellar Fountain debut, the duo present 'Here I Am' alongside remixes from Daniel van der Zwaag and Gadi Mitrani.

Beginning with the title selection Mariner + Domingo effortlessly blend warm beats, perfectly sculpted bass and a wide array of exotic percussion. The production is absolutely sensational; vibrant and alive, it sets the course for billowing and Mediterranean themes to intertwine, while vocal overlays and heartfelt sonics carry the piece to an enchanting finale. The companion track 'Low Life' brings more seaside vibes with a stunning selection of organic drums and mallet-like tones. Charming vocals drift through the framework, adding depth and emotion across the first act, before buoyant rhythms and jangly hooks unite for an incredibly catchy final movement.

There are also two interpretations of 'Here I Am' included beginning with Daniel van der Zwaag who returns to the label following a remix of Amir Telem in March of this year. With the backing of Nick Warren and releases via Balance Music and The Soundgarden, the Dutch artist has quickly become a sought after name for all things deep and organic. Always a creative remixer, Daniel does a great job at adding a slightly more subversive context to 'Here I Am', while never losing sight of it's exotic qualities. From stripped down beginnings comes haunting atmospheres and fragmented vocals, slowly descending over deep yet pulsating beats, organic drums and dusty artefacts. As the narrative evolves so too does its emotive appeal, with hazy harmonics and charming melodies trailing over the framework, before a heartfelt break effortlessly segues into a redolent finale.

Rounding out the package is Gadi Mitrani who makes his label debut following releases on Magician On Duty, Plattenbank, Seven Villas, Sudbeat Music and Tale & Tone. The Turkish artist ups the tempo a touch for a mix that brings more of a progressive sensibility, making it a great complement to the previous two versions. Its well carved groove is fluid yet funky; perfectly contoured and characterized by rolling bass tones. It provides the perfect foundation for a slightly less distinct take on the main themes. Fragmented and reprocessed amidst a gentle haze of atmosphere and effects, it's a charming seven minute journey that sits comfortably in the creative space between progressive and organic house. Superb stuff from all involved here, making for a must have release from Stellar Fountain. Highly recommended.
