Marcos Dermi – Elephant [Soundteller Records]

Deersky's Soundteller Records returns welcoming new talent Marcos Dermi to the label for his debut single. Rising out of the progressive house hotbed of Argentina, the Buenos Aires based artist has a sound that sits comfortably between deep and progressive house. His Soundteller debut has been much anticipated and comes alongside remixes from Alberto Blanco and A SKITZO.

Marcos Dermi makes a great first impression here with the musically inspired deep house cut 'Elephant'. Coming in at a modest 115 BPM and aptly titled as it does feature some elephant-esque wails, what's most captivating is it's mallet-like, Mediterranean motifs, which sit beautifully on a bed of warm, contoured bass and organic drums. Shifting into more poignant territory, the break melts all that instrumentation away in favour of hopeful pads and wistful atmospheres, it's a well crafted storyboard and one which leads perfectly to a charming finale.

Bringing a more progressive vibe to the track is Alberto Blanco who returns to Soundteller following releases on AH Digital and Massive Harmony. The Argentinean veteran does a wonderful job with a more robust interpretation that complements the original very well. It's fuller groove, heavy drums and healthy effects narrative are all spectacular, building energy across the first act before a short interlude transitions the piece into a peak time worthy third act.

The release concludes with A SKITZO also returning to the label following his 'Mournful Eyes' EP from December of last year. Having now notched a release on Where The Heart Is, the Bosnian artist now lands back on Soundteller for his first remix. Although the tempo shifts up dramatically it's a production which does follow the deeper cue of the original. Fuller and more percussive, it relies on warm overlays, feathered synth work and a less distinct take on the main themes, for what results in a lovely alternative to the previous two versions. A gorgeous remix from A SKITZO, rounding out a unique and inspired release from Soundteller Records. Don't miss it.
