Marc DePulse – Separate The Men From The Boys [Beat Boutique]

DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique welcomes Marc DePulse back to the label for his debut EP 'Separate The Men From The Boys'. The German artist delivered a smashing remix of D-Nox and Santiago Franch for the Israeli imprint in January of last year, and has since gone on to record work for Beatfreak, Einmusika, Eleatics, Parquet and Sincopat. Now landing back on Beat Boutique, Marc presents his debut EP for the label alongside remixes from Modeplex and Thodoris Triantafillou.

Aptly titled, 'Separate The Men From The Boys' is a beast of a track but perhaps not in the way you might think. It's neither dark or aggressive but rather tasteful and timeless. Based around a shuffly techno groove, it's rhythmic energy is pure, free flowing and incredibly funky. A touch late night in mood perhaps and with a storyboard of chord stabs to die for, this is one creation that will stand the test of time exceedingly well. The companion piece 'Gentle Reminder' sits as an ideal complement with it's buoyant groove, buzzing energy and trippy effects. Again quite timeless in design, it evolves in a captivating manner, subtly building layers of effects and crunchy rhythms before the final break adds just the right amount of tension to ensure a great reaction from your dance floor.

Beat Boutique always seems to make astute remixer choices and they've more than carried that on here with Modeplex and Thodoris Triantafillou both turning in creative work. The former perhaps best known for his appearances on Stil Vor Talent and Steyoyoke, goes a touch tougher and darker while still staying true to the main themes from the original. It's romping groove moves with discernible momentum as sonic aesthetics and rugged rhythms converge for a hearty core. The lead motif gets immersed in a kaleidoscope of effects, eventually shifting into a stripped down second act and nicely timed break, the latter of which perfectly sets up an exhilarating finale.

Rounding out the release is Thodoris Triantafillou who makes his label debut following releases on Chapter 24 and Atlant. Also known for his past work on Connaisseur, Objektivity and Upon You, the Athens resident remains one of Greece's most cutting edge electronic music talents. His rendition of 'Separate The Men From The Boys' comes in quite contemporary and with a timeless attitude. It's combination of musicality and funk not only makes for a heady experience but one which will translate incredibility well on the dance floor. A stunning remix from Thodoris which caps off a very well put together release for DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique. Highly recommended.
