Kokiyo – Astral Force [Musique de Lune]

Continuing to add new talent to their roster, Musique de Lune welcomes Kokiyo to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Mexico, emerging talent Jorge Evangelista aka Kokiyo quickly found his footing through early releases via Canopy Sounds, Flug Lab and RYNTH. The Tijuana resident was recognized for his organic, melodic, emotional and ethnic atmospheres, all combined to create a house sound with minimalist textures and progressive touches. After closing out 2022 with a contribution to Hoomidaas' 'Hoom Side of the Moon' collection, 2023 has brought further successes through projects for 90watts, Elebated Records, Music is 4 Lovers and Stellar Fountain. Now, as the year winds to a close, Kokiyo adds Musique de Lune to his resume with a three-track showcase entitled 'Astral Force'.

Comprised of three distinctive and equally compelling creations, it is the deep, enchanting sounds of 'Renaissance' which sets the tone for the EP. Instantly seductive, its burly beats, glassy arpeggios and key-changing bass swells provide an emotive framework for hopeful pads and windswept effects to deliver a smooth path into the break. Building tastefully across the interlude, Kokiyo's penchant for evocative musicality shines as percussive rides and atmospheric swells create anticipation for a groovy melodic finale.

The second selection 'Walking On Water' follows a similar sonic profile but with a greater melancholic lean. Kokiyo operates at the peak of his creative powers across a thought-provoking seven minute running time, effortlessly melding twinkly melodies with balmy atmospheres and nicely manicured beats for a perfect mid-set style track.

Rounding out the release is the title selection 'Astral Force' which showcases Kokiyo's knack for storytelling. Full of detail and idiosyncrasies, it's a hopeful voyage where the Mexican artist explores a storyboard of free-form melodies and meandering musical coactions. A perfect mood lifting excursion which not only sits as a standout on the release but caps it off on a poignant note. Highly recommended.
