Juan Ibanez – Parthenogenesis [Strangers Beats]

Antrim's Strangers Beats returns welcoming Juan Ibanez to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Argentina Juan has been touted as one of his country's rising talents. Upon finding a home on D.J. MacIntyre's SLC-6 imprint earlier this year he went on to appear on the label two additional times while also recording a remix for AH Recordings. Now presenting the biggest release of his young career Juan lands on Strangers Beats with 'Parthenogenesis'.

Beginning with the title selection, the Argentinean artist sets the tone with a pure progressive creation that delivers a wonderful emotional response. Anchored by a warm, buoyant groove and waves of neatly tailored percussion, it’s an evolving atmospheric storyboard which first captures your imagination. Impassioned shades, charming vocal fragments and a Mediterranean motif just add to its enigmatic nature, before eventually melting down into a transcendent break, expanding on the vocal narrative and perfectly setting up a pulsating finale.

The companion piece ‘Chernobyl’ follows suit with tough beats, rolling rhythms and wispy atmospherics. Built around a series of vocal motifs and crunchy arps, the first act is quite mystical in nature. As it strips down into the main break you get what is perhaps the track's most memorable moment; with a spoken word vocal getting introduced, elevating mood as warm bass swells and pixie-like sonics unite as the beats drop for a glowing finale. For an artist who only has a handful of releases, Juan is definitely on the fast track to progressive house excellence. An amazing EP and a great signing for Strangers Beats. Highly recommended.
