JFR – Kain [Secret Feelings]

Secret Feelings opens the month of May with a new single from label boss JFR. Hailing from Argentina but currently calling Spain home, Juan Franco Rivero aka JFR has carved out a unique sonic identity in the world of progressive and organic house, resulting in a string of uniquely crafted records that present a resonant worldly sound. Enjoying a steady rise since emerging 2017, it was 2021 which proved to be a breakout year for JFR, as the Argentine continued his upward trajectory with a standout release for UK behemoth Anjunadeep; a project which would lead to offerings via Clubsonica and Musique de Lune across the next calendar year, and in turn garnering support from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Sebastian Leger. 2023 would also bring newfound success for JFR, launching his Secret Feelings imprint in September with 'Anatonic', before ending the year with the critically acclaimed five-track showcase '21 Angels'. With three successful single's to begin 2024, the most recent of which was April's 'Morning Feelings', the Barcelona resident continues to build his Secret Feelings imprint with a new single entitled 'Kain', alongside remixes from Evegrem, Mazayr and Anton Borin.

Operating as one of the more diverse progressive producers in today's scene, JFR delivers a retro-tinged dancefloor cut with 'Kain'. A sturdy groove and strong percussive cadence create a club-effective vibe early on. It's what follows which may make many fans reflect back with a sense of nostalgia, as a co-ax of acid-like stabs and symphonic synth phrasing build into a colourful vortex, eventually revealing a cascading trance-inspired lead, a defining moment in the track's evolution, and one that ultimately seals JFR's melodic craftsmanship once again.

Making his label debut with the first interpretation of 'Kain' is Evegrem who arrives following releases for Mango Alley and Yomo Records. The Cordoba resident has an uncanny knack for crafting hook heavy grooves and he does so once again here, putting a modern progressive twist on the track, one with strong rhythmic pulses and an offset lead which eventually gives way to a stellar build and sure fire drop.

Also making his label debut is UK based artist Mazayr who is perhaps best known for this releases via Canopy Sounds, Musique de Lune and Nordic Voyage. Often times straddling the line between progressive and organic house, Mazayr leans towards the former for his 'Kain' interpretation, taking the track through a roller-coaster of tasteful synth mutations, vocal overlays and a muted take on the lead line which hits the perfect emotional tone.

Rounding out the release is a third label debutant in Anton Borin. Famed for his releases via Mango Alley and WARPP, the Russian artist is one of the more creative remixers within the progressive house landscape, oftentimes bringing a completely different approach to his projects which should be applauded. He's done exactly that on his 'Kain' interpretation, stripping the track right down and focusing on more of an intricate, detailed and highly groove-centric sound which is not only perfect for the astute dancefloors out there, but also rounds out the release on a complementary note. Highly recommended.
