Jab Vix – The Flame [Droid9]

Droid9 welcomes Jab Vix back to the label with a new EP entitled 'The Flame'. The Colombian artist first appeared on the American imprint in July of last year with 'Orion' and has since gone on to deliver three more originals and a remix. Now following releases for Oz Land Music and Solar Twilight, Jab Vix returns to Droid9 with a two track showcase.

The title selection kicks the release off with both groovy and musical qualities. It’s punchy beats and rolling cadence is nicely accentuated with beefy drums and drifting atmospheres. Vocal overlays meld nicely into the backdrop while luminous tones and spacey arps further the storyboard. Brief and timely, the main break serves to lessen tension through plaid soundscapes, perfectly resetting the groove for a percussive drop and epic final movement.

Rounding out the release are the smooth, uplifting vibes of ‘Rare Beauty’. Chugging bass lines and rolling drums unite early on for a groovy rhythmic core, as rising atmospheres and haunting effects advance the narrative. Ethereal voices add depth and emotion, playing off harmonic phrases for a unique combination of beauty and tension, before eventually shifting energy into a percussive, key changing finale. It caps off a gorgeous EP from Jab Vix, making for a brilliant return to Droid9 for the rising Colombian artist. Highly recommended.
