The latest release on Yegor Tsarkov's Specific Music presents a unique remix edition for Gvozdini’s ‘Neutral Reflection’. Originally released in November of last year it saw the Ukrainian artist deliver two of his finest cuts of the year. Now Specific Music invites label artists Michael A and Robert R. Hardy to reinvent both cuts from the EP.

First up Robert R. Hardy takes ‘Neutral Reflection’ into his world of deep grooves and enchanting melodies. There’s a quirky synth line in this one which gives it a nice edge as it ebbs and flows through different sonic spaces. The section following the main break delivers the most heat with strong drums, ethereal vocals and the eventual reappearance of the main theme. A strong remix and no doubt great on the dance floor. On his ‘The Spring Is Mine’ interpretation Robert goes for a slightly fuller feel with a warm, fluid groove sitting at the foundation while waves of cosmic synths and intricate drum work adorn the framework. The pure progressive house vibes are strong here with pixie-like qualities and a dramatic break perfectly setting up a hazy, harmonic third act.

What makes this package so unique and unlike any I’ve ever seen is that Michael A also remixes the same two tracks. It’s quite interesting to hear how two of progressive music’s most talented producers reinterpret the same two compositions. On ‘Neutral Reflection’ the Belarus artist goes into moody, atmospheric territory with a wealth of interesting textures and ghostly motifs. Not without emotive moments the main break definitely pulls at your heartstrings with poignant chord changes, before shifting energy into a smooth finale. Conversely on ‘The Spring Is Mine’ Michael opens the groove up for a more spacious and perhaps deeper sensibility. The rhythmic qualities are quite strong and when combined with trippy lines and timely stabs it makes for a dramatic contrast.

I’m not sure where Specific label boss Yegor Tsarkov got the idea for this sort of release but it’s an intriguing one and both Robert and Michael deliver some of their headiest work to date as a result. Highly Recommended.
