Fabri Lopez – Dedication [Balkan Connection]

Closing out a sensational year, Fabri Lopez returns to Balkan Connection for his debut EP. Touted as one of Argentina's fastest risers, the progressive house savant had previously delivered two remixes for the Serbian imprint, while also laying claim to releases on 3rd Avenue, Clubsonica, Massive Harmony Records and Stellar Fountain. Now to round out 2019, the Villa Mercedes resident lands back on Balkan Connection with 'Dedication'.

Known for his pure progressive creations Fabri explores that ethos on the first cut 'VM'. Dark and dramatic from the outset it’s powerful low end and crunchy rhythms provide momentous drive, while hopeful pads and playful rhythms fill in the framework. Dreamy arps carry the narrative before stripping down into the main break. Angelic vocals soon steal the air, drifting through heartfelt harmonics before smoothly seguing into a driving finale. 'Manijas' follows with a similarly tough, punchy groove and electric lines. Unique stabs capture your attention as waves effects slowly encase the framework. Frantic yet fluid, the narrative soon shifts into melodic territory with a bouncy lead theme elevating the mood into the break, before an atmospheric oasis delivers just the right amount of emotion as a powerful drum roll sparks a massive drop.

The EPs halfway point is marked with the joyous grooves of 'Mom and Dad'. Beginning with crisp beats and tightly wound arps it’s rhythmic appeal quickly captures your imagination. Waves of percussion soon encase the framework, eventually giving way to a dulcet theme and heavenly break, the latter of which really hits on a profound emotional level. Rounding out the release is 'El Negro' which continues the energetic mood of the collection. It’s tough, rolling groove is perfectly carved, adorned with fiery percussion and timely chord changes. Smooth and emotive across the first act, eventually leading to a symphonic break where charming melodies elevate mood, before a classy peak sparks a moderately wonky finale. Likely most the unique sounding creation on the collection and certainly a worthy one to cap it off. Superb stuff from Fabri who looks forward to what should be a great 2020. Highly recommended.
