Erdi Irmak – Journey To The Unknown (Sound Avenue)

The 82nd release on Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint welcomes Erdi Irmak to the label for a new EP. The Turkish artist has previously appeared on label affiliates 3rd Avenue and Crossfade Sounds, dating back as far as 2012. Now stepping up and making his much anticipated Sound Avenue debut Erdi presents his two track EP entitled 'Journey to the Unknown'. 

Never one to get locked into a particular sound or trend, Erdi has manoeuvred the waters of progressive, tech and deep house with marvellous calculation. The lead track 'Journey to the Unknown' comes in as another cross pollinated gem that sits as one of his all time best. Anchored by a spacious, chuggy groove it's rhythmic swing is immediately appealing. Airy motifs and mystical atmospheres soon surround the framework as percussive waves drive the momentum forward. A timely break strips things down for a trip into spaced out territory before the primary centrepiece brings melancholic moods. Broken beats and a buzzing decay build tension as the powerful groove drops for a magical finish.

The companion piece 'Invisible' comes in equally groovy with another marvellously sculpted foundation. It's rolling, rhythmic core and soft acid lines are a match made in meditative heaven, building a charming pulse as the main break approaches. Sparsely solemn, the track's centrepiece unveils a devilishly distinctive lead, heightening the senses and pulling emotion with each passing loop, before phasing synths lift the groove to its full rumbling capacity. Perhaps one of Erdi's most unique creations to date and an excellent way to round out a superb debut on Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint. Highly Recommended.
