Releases Dimi Kass – Mist of Memories [Polyptych Limited] By Release Promo Posted on 30th June 2024 6 min read 0 4 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Polyptych Limited opens the month of July by welcoming Dimi Kass to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Cyprus, Dimi Kass has been involved in electronic music for the better part of two decades. Taking inspiration from the sounds of progressive house and techno, the Limassol resident would eventually learn the art of mixing, leading to DJ gigs at some of his country's trendiest venues in Guaba Beach Bar, Mason Bar, Bar y and Square, amongst others. A stay in the UK only furthered his DJing prowess, as Dimi would notch residences at Atlantis Bar, Area Club, Brixton Bar and Brixton Jam, while also holding down a weekly residency on S-Dance Live Radio London, alongside the likes of Boris Brejcha, Brina Knauss, Gabriel & Dresden, Lee Van Dowski and Nick Devon. Also a producer for the better part of a decade, it was a well-received debut on Callote in 2016 which would set the course for projects via Big Toys Production, Cerebro and Progrezo; a trifecta of label's where Dimi's melodic sound would flourish. Now, following an EP for Natura Viva to close out 2023, Dimi adds Polyptych Limited to his resume with 'Mist of Memories'. 'Mist of Memories' leads the release off in grand fashion and only furthers Dimi's journey into the darker depths of melodic techno. Strong kick drums and a bed of crunchy rhythms provide the anchor for layers of flickering percussion and shapeshifting arps. Cruising with a commanding presence, there's a strong sense of flow across the first act, as metallic melodies steal the air, not only adding depth and character, but a tension filled rise leading into a seismic break. Here, placid pads create a sense of calm, eventually giving way to percolating effects and a dramatic build, onwards to a stripped drop and lively melodic finale. Beneath the colossal sounds of 'Mist of Memories' lies the equally impressive 'Distant Lament'. Geared more towards morning play, Dimi's pristine production chops serve him well here, bursting with ultrasonic qualities and a keen sense of drama and emotion. In what is an energy rush for the ages, it's a rollercoaster of crystalline melodic structures and hopeful overlays which provide a rejuvenating storyboard, while a foundation of titanic kick drums and rippling grooves not only keeps the focus on the dancefloor, but round out the release on a poignant note.
