Basil O’Glue – Sacred Language [Phenomena]

The second release on Solid Stone's Phenomena imprint welcomes Basil O'Glue to the label for his debut EP. Since arriving on the scene a decade ago the Greek artist has carved out a unique place in the progressive house underground. His deep, enchanting productions have led to releases on cutting edge imprints while earning support from a wide range of international DJs. Now with the demand for his music at an all time high, Basil joins Phenomena with a double a-side release entitled 'Sacred Language/Distant Mirror'.

From stripped, punchy beginnings 'Sacred Language' immediately builds intrigue with an inviting atmospheric resonance. On a bed of buoyant beats and well contoured bass comes warped motifs and waves of metallic percussion. Binding rhythmic flow with heady harmonics and hypnotic arps makes for a sleek, meditative first act. A foreshadowing of sorts, as the narrative elevates across two breaks, eventually peaking as waves of white noise and timely modulation converge for a smooth rush and exhilarating finale.

The companion piece 'Distance Mirror' shows how adept Basil is at crafting trippy yet melodious sound stories. Deep, pulsating and laced with astral effects, the piece builds in waves across four acts. Bubbly arps emanate an effervescent glow while raspy lines and unconventional chord changes add to its congruent psychedelia. Building to a sensory sizzle, the second of three interludes proves to be a sonic crest of sorts, setting up a storming final act. Two stunning cuts from Basil that any true progressive house aficionado will certainly cherish in their collection for years to come.
