Banana Cat – Derecho [Phenomena]

The latest release from Solid Stone's Phenomena imprint welcomes Banana Cat to the label for their debut single. Hailing from Boston, Kyle Pike and Elan Rochbert make up the Banana Cat production duo. Operating in the creative space between house and techno has done wonders for the duos DJ career, earning them spots at some of the city's trendiest venues as well as festival gigs around the United States. Now embarking on their first official release, the duo present their debut single 'Derecho' alongside a remix from Solid Stone.

The original mix begins with muted kicks rising out of a stormy backdrop, sizzling with anticipation as percussive waves and machine gun beats push momentum forward. Dark and foreboding yet melodic and tranquil, it's an instant mood setter, transporting even the most diserning listener into a unique sonic space. With free flowing aesthetics and attention to detail at a premium, the main break elevates the mood further through evocative synths and crunchy electronics, providing the ultimate contrast before serving up one final euphoric rush.

Rounding out the release and providing the lone interpretation of 'Derecho' is Phenomena label boss Solid Stone. The Canadian artist follows up his well received 'Monsoon' EP along with a remix for Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic to begin the year. Once again operating at a creative peak, Solid Stone maintains the tough, punchy ethos of the original while advancing the melodic narrative in a less distinct manner. It's redolent rhythms and glacial pads unite in a perfect sonic marriage, while a cinematic break fully saturates your pleasure centres before melting down into a tasteful drop. It rounds out a superb Phenomena debut from Banana Cat, who have staked their claim as a production duo to watch in 2019.
