APNITUS – Deceptive Distance [Droid9 Limited]

Already on their eighth release, the newly launched Limited division of Droid9 welcomes APNITUS to the label for their debut single. Hailing from Cordoba, Clever Albornoz and Mariano Fabbro make up the APNITUS production team. Having first appeared in March of this year with a single via Deep House Natural, the Argentinean duo quickly followed that up with a contribution to 3rd Avenue's We Are The Future' collection in May. Now embarking on their most anticipated release to date, APNITUS debut on Droid9 Limited with 'Deceptive Distance' alongside remixes from Christian Monique and Ivan Aliaga & Gabriel Filip.

As the creative synergy of the duo grows so to does the scope of their productions. 'Deceptive Distance' finds APNITUS crafting a slice of atmospheric progressive house. Dark and dramatic from the outset, it’s rolling foundation and glassy harmonics immediately grab your attention. The narrative shifts into emotive territory during the break however, with cinematic overlays descending over the cavernous interlude, perfectly setting up an arp driven finale.

Always a creative remixer, it's Christian Monique that provides the first interpretation here. The Italian artist drops the tempo a touch for a deep, throbbing and devilish hypnotic rendition. Tough beats, muscular bass lines and a trail of tripped out audio make this a production to get truly lost in. A gentle atmospheric haze creates an air of tension as a tranquil arp slowly fades to prominence. It's this warm overlay which perfectly segues into a poignant break. Much like the original, the mood shifts completely here, with heartfelt textures and poignant chord changes elevating mood into a dark drop and chugging final movement.

Rounding out the remixes is Ivan Aliaga and Gabriel Filip who team up for their first ever collaboration. Hailing from Argentina and Romania respectively, this cross continental duo provides a lovely complement to the original with a mix that is both heady and emotional. Sitting a top a tough, driving groove are tight rhythms, fiery percussion and wispy effects. Meandering synths add just the right amount of tension as the production builds, before transferring energy into the symphonic lead theme during the main break. Epic and emotive in all the right the ways, the centrepiece is striking, elevating mood on wards to a exhilarating finale. A huge interpretation from Ivan and Gabriel which caps off another excellent offering on Droid9 Limited. Highly recommended.
