Antrim – We Are One [Or Two Strangers]

Celebrating their 50th release, Or Two Strangers opens the summer season with a new EP from label boss Antrim. A prolific 2020 saw the Argentinean artist collaborate with fellow progressive music stars Interaxxis and Alex O’Rion, for releases on Cid Inc’s Replug Records and Roger Martinez’s Higher States, while solo outings came courtesy of Guy Mantzur’s Plattenbank Records and Or Two Strangers, the latter of which was the vehicle for his well received ‘Black Night’ EP. On the strength of such a great year, the Cordoba resident has gone on to highlight 2021 with the release of his Clubsonica single ‘Huffnung’, and debut album ‘Beat2Be’ via Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music. Now to commemorate the label’s 50th release, Antrim returns returning to his comfortable home of Or Two Strangers with a three-track showcase entitled ‘We Are One’.

Having been a highlight and much requested track of Antrim’s recent gigs, it is the melodic stylings of the title selection which get the release underway. Rhythmically charged, it’s pulsating cadence, striking stabs and fiery percussive set the piece on a course for aural enlightenment. Creamy tones rise across the first act, accented beautifully with emotive chord changes and a compelling spoken word narrative. Effervescent effects delight across the centrepiece, eventually melting down to the creation’s vocal message as a tasteful crescendo cues a balmy finale.

Continuing the journey is the equally excellent ‘There Is Resistance’. In carving out a distinctive groove, Antrim has fashioned a strong foundation, flanked by layers of finely tuned percussion and rhythmic pulses. Charging forward, interwoven arps descend over the framework, adding a charming luster as the breakdown commences. Moments of tasteful euphoria encapsulate the centrepiece, as poignant chords steal the air before smoothly transitioning into a trail of charged beats and melodic colour.

The third and final selection ‘Recapture’ rounds out the release with an equally impressive display of melody and groove. Spacious and fluid, it’s a creation built around rolling bass tones and temperate harmonies. Antrim’s precise craftsmanship shines here, with muted pianos and windswept effects converging across the main break, as ethereal phrasing effortlessly shifts energy into a reflective finale.

As Antrim reaches the halfway mark on what has already been a landmark year, ‘We Are One’ not only furthers his progressive excellence but sets the bar high for 2021’s homestretch.
