Adrian Roman – Timanfaya [Deepwibe Underground]

The latest release from Deepwibe Underground welcomes Adrian Roman to the label for his debut EP. The Spanish artist owns an impressive discography highlighted by releases on Beatfreak, Beat Boutique, Balkan Connection South America, Strange Town Recordings and Univack. Now following a release on Uner's Solar Distance imprint, he debuts on Deepwibe Underground with 'Timanfaya' alongside a remix from Weird Sounding Dude.

Beginning with the title selection Adrian crafts a driving percussive beauty. Rippling bass tones marry punchy beats for a wonderful foundation before iridescent pads and tonal motifs blanket the groove. Exotic drums are beautifully utilized throughout the seven minute journey, while a classy arp takes centre stage during the main break, before opening up into a rousing, percussive drop. The companion piece ‘Little Piece Of Desert’ opens up the groove and maintains a brilliant percussive cadence. Pensive atmospheres and cross cultural leanings soon engulf the framework, while trippy effects only add to it's otherworldly presence. Floaty arps sit off in the distance, running throughout the break while a wall of cosmic colour builds to an exhilarating apex. Two monstrous tracks from Adrian.

Rounding out the release and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Timanfaya’ is Weird Sounding Dude. Long regarded as one of India’s most intriguing artists, the Bangalore resident has found a home on Balkan Connection, Juicebox Music, Plattenbank and Strange Town Recordings. Now following a remix for Ziger's Eat My Hat imprint, Weird Sounding Dude makes his Deepwibe Underground debut with a powerful take on ‘Timanfaya’. The groove gets reworked into something a bit more chunky and robust, while a complement of ghostly atmospheres and organic percussion fill in the framework. Bringing peak time sensibilities, rousing rhythms and electric lines charge forward across the first act, before a tension filled break sparks and even bigger finale. Already a favourite of Nick Warren this goes down as another dance floor bomb from Weird Sounding Dude, an artist who continues to operate at his creative peak. It caps off what might be the best Deepwibe Underground release to date. Highly recommended.
