Releases Funkstate & Marea Neagra – Underground Is Calling [Balkan Connection] By Release Promo Posted on 31st August 2018 0 second read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin The latest release from Balkan Connection finds the label showcasing a much anticipated collaboration from Funkstate and Marea Neagra. The Argentinean trio has been hugely successful in their respective solo careers with appearances on Or Two Strangers and Massive Harmony Records. Now coming together for an exciting new project the trio present ‘Underground Is Calling’ alongside remixes from Hot Tuneik, Ewan Rill and After Burn. The lines between deep and progressive house continue to get more blurred as 2018 goes on and this is a release which bridges the gap quite nicely. Clocking in at a sultry 115 bpm the original mix is an excursion into darker shades and esoteric designs. Ghostly vocals and a sinister tonal theme highlight the first act before breaking down into an interlude of bird-like motifs and further modulation, ultimately leading to a rhythmically rugged finale. An exceptional selection of remixers add mightily to the package beginning with Hot TuneiK. The Mexican artist and Hookah Records label boss brings his organic sound to the track in a major way. Keeping the main theme in tact Hot adds space and depth with his cavernous groove and dusty drums. Not only has he become Mexico’s most recognized progressive house artist but perhaps one of genres fastest rising as well. Next up Balkan Connection artist Ewan Rill ups the tempo to the more standard range of 121 bpm. The Russian artist has always excelled at rhythmically charged productions and his ‘Underground Is Calling’ interpretation certainly falls into that category. Fluid, rolling and packed full of wonderful hooks it’s a dark six minute jaunt that’s going to generate a great reaction on the dance floor. The release concludes with After Burn making his label debut. Best known as one of half of Some Little Things, Leandro Moyano launched his solo ‘After Burn’ project late last year with an EP on Antrim’s Or Two Strangers imprint. Also owning a release on Tash’s Movement Recordings he now makes his Balkan Connection debut with a great rendition of ‘Underground Is Calling’. The dubbier nature of this version makes it a nice complement to the previous two as the main theme is only teased ever so slightly during the main break. It’s gentle, on the surface approach allows the meditative groove to work it’s magic and that ultimately is the strength of the track. An excellent remix from After Burn which concludes a star studded release from Balkan Connection. Don’t miss it.
