Artem Kalalb – Satellite [ICONYC]

John Johnson’s ICONYC imprint closes out 2017 by welcoming Artem Kalalb back to the label for a new single. The Russian artist last appeared on the US imprint last month with a remix of ‘We All Heart’ by Robert R. Hardy. Now returning for his sixth appearance Artem presents his latest single entitled ‘Satellite’ alongside remixes from Emi Galvan and Zed White.

Artem has spent a good portion of his career on ICONYC and the label always seems to get his best work. 'Satellite' is a deep and poignant creation with a nod to the pixie-era of progressive house where James Holden led the way. On a backbone of warm bass swells, the piece flows through a wide range of emotions from hopeful to reflective while the main break elevates the mood just enough to setup a powerful finale. Gorgeous work from Artem.

Fresh off an appearance on Paul Hazendonk's MNL imprint, Emi Galvan returns to the label for his fourth appearance. The Argentinean artist is an incredible talent and time and time again proves to be one of the most musically gifted producers in the progressive underground. For his 'Satellite' interpretation Emi opens up the melodic elements a touch and adds what I would guess are his own vocals given his musical past. There's an extra dimension of emotion as a result which complements the original very well. And for the less vocally inclined there is also a Dub version included.

The release concludes with Zed White returning to the label for his second appearance. The UK artist first appeared on ICONYC last month with a remix of 'Shout In Space' by Sonderzug. Also owning releases on Perfecto and Bonzai Records, Zed has made a solid name for himself in the old school progressive trance arena. His interpretation of 'Satellite' does exactly what you hope for, elevating the emotion into celestial territory with airy vocal pads and gorgeous harmonics, while a piano laced break brings more of a grandiose vibe to finish things off right. A lovely remix from Zed which caps off another well rounded release from John Johnson's ICONYC. It's been a great year for the US imprint with almost every release finding a place in the Beatport Progressive House Top 100 and next year promises even greater success with new artists and fresh projects in the pipeline.
