soulForm - Synesthesia [BTech Noir]

Brent Lawson's BTech Noir imprint returns in a major way this week with a fresh remix package for soulForm's 'Synesthesia'. Originally released in November of 2016, it's progressive techno sensibilities proved irresistible with dreamy melodies, wispy vocals and stunning effects all layered over a tough commanding groove. Now with the 2017 summer season in full swing BTechNoir invites Dave Seaman, Quivver and Kri Samadhi to invent the track for what is the labels most anticipated offering to date.

First up Selador boss Dave Seaman goes deep and mystical with his 'Desert Hearts' rework. Backed by a warm groove, the UK artist uses the vocal to great effect, creating a mesmerizing, meditative loop which adds nicely to the track's rhythmic core. Raspy synth hooks and a gorgeous harmonic wave are perhaps where the magic lies though. A gorgeous contrast with a bevy of emotive moments getting generated here and Dave seems to have his pulse on exactly when to let go, venturing back to the looping vocals, keeping your feet firmly on the dance floor. A genius remix from one of the true masters.

Continuing with heavyweight talent, John Graham aka Quivver returns to the BTech family for his third appearance, albeit the first with the Noir division. It's been an amazing year for John with a chart topping EP for John Digweed's Bedrock Records and key remixes for Eklektisch, Selador and Sudbeat. Interestingly this remix is coined Quivver's 'Space Manoeuvres' remix which for long time progressive house fans is certainly a pleasant sight. Not sure if this means that moniker may be getting rejuvenated or not but there are certainly elements of that distinctive sound here. A spacier, more atmospheric take on the Quivver sound essentially, which really comes out in how he used the vocals. reprocessed to maximum effect, they play a large role in the storyboard as do astral electronics and a shifty harmonic resonance. It comes together quite brilliantly for a dance floor friendly, moderately psychedelic affair. Killer remix from John.

The third and final remix of 'Synesthesia' is provided by Kri Samadhi who is making his first appearance on the label. The US artist has roots in the psy-trance / techno scene with some of his first releases coming courtesy of Ovnimoon Records. This along with an upcoming remix of Hernan Serrao and Brent Lawson note a stylistic shift of sorts although it's ultimately more of a tempo shift than anything. The crisp, ultra processed psy design is definitely prevalent and in this context is super interesting. Trippy and groovy in all the right ways it puts a cap on what is one of the summer's best remix packages. Highly Recommended.
