Nipocra – Chase the Sun [Bevel Rec]

Italian imprint Bevel Rec welcomes Nipocra to the label for their much anticipated debut release. Hailing from Milan, the Italian artist first appeared on the progressive music scene in 2016 before eventually landing on Balkan Connection's BC2 division the following year. 2018 yielded releases on Clinique Recordings and Trip Records where his deep take on the genre flourished. Now setting in motion what promises to be a great run on Bevel Rec, Nipocra presents 'Chase The Sun' to the launch the label on a strong note.

The release gets underway with the deep, dubby qualities of title cut which sets the tone for the EP. Smooth and meditative, it’s fluid low end is warm and wonderfully contoured, while creamy textures, trippy electronics and detailed percussion fill in the framework. Fragmented atmospheres build a haunting storyboard before smoothly transitioning into the centrepiece. As the interlude evolves timely modulation continues to elevate mood, while a bed of muted beats builds anticipation before a rhythmic shift ushers in a heady conclusion.

The companion piece 'Kepler' follows a similar sonic ethos to it's predecessor but with a greater emphasis on drive and tempo. Warm and spacious, it’s roomy framework develops methodically as pixie-like themes and wispy electronics converge in a perfect sonic marriage. Otherworldly in nature, the harmonic disposition is lovely throughout, juxtaposed perfectly with subtle modular shifts and dreamy motifs, before a timely break seals it’s dance floor appeal. Mature and heady music from Nipocra which makes for an auspicious beginning for Bevel Rec, setting the quality bar high for what promises to be a year for the label. Highly recommended.
