Greenage – Kalimera [The Purr]

Greenage returns to The Purr this week with a new EP entitled 'Kalimera'. The Indian artist is fresh off a well received remix of Nicholas Van Orton's 'Shelby' and also owns recent releases on Balkan Connection and Groove 9. With many progressive music artists now also veering towards the deeper, dreamy spectrum's of house, Greenage now also flexes this side of his studio repertoire with 'Kalimera'.

The EP's title selection is first and comes in beautifully with deep, soulful and incredibly charming motifs. Cross cultural vocals sit atop exotic drums and a spacious, laid back groove. Leading into the first break luminous tones and irridescent pads complement each other perfectly, before segueing into a lush second act bridge. Percussive flurries and timely synth swells advance the narrative further, before symphonic overlays add the icing on the cake.

The companion piece 'Light In Her Eyes' follows suit and is equally charming. Warm and rife with character, it’s punchy low end commands your attention at the outset. Organic drums, cascading themes and ghostly vocal elements quickly shift the narrative into more emotive territory, perfectly foreshadowing a poignant piano which leads into the break. It’s an impassioned interlude, almost introspective at moments and one which delivers waves of melancholia before transitioning into a glowing finale. It rounds out two gorgeous creations from Greenage who diversifies his portfolio quite nicely here. Highly recommended.
