ZAC – Hold On [Beat Boutique]

DJ Zombi’s Beat Boutique begins the year by welcoming Zac back to the label for a brand new single. The Brazilian artist last appeared on the Israeli imprint in September of last year with his ‘Rutile’ EP in collaboration with Gabriel Carminatti. Also landing 2018 releases on Sprout and Warung Recordings, Zac now returns to Beat Boutique with ‘Hold On’ alongside remixes from Mononoid, Zâgitar and Anhauser.

Starting the release with a massive jolt of energy is the original mix. Warm, fluid and driving it’s infectious cadence sucks you in immediately. Charming vocals pierce the air as waves of bass ripple and astral effects fill in the framework. A simple but effective arp pushes momentum forward before a final break adds just the right dramatic touch.

First up on the remixes and making their label debut is Mononoid. The Dutch duo had a successful 2018, highlighted by releases on Einmusika, ICONYC, Movement Recordings and Keller. Topping their gig schedule was a highly memorable and much talked about set at the infamous Rainbow Serpent Festival. Now beginning what promises to be an even better year Mononoid overhaul ‘Hold On’ into an emotive slice of progressive house. Going a touch deeper and more melodic has worked wonders and provided a perfect complement to the original. Heavily prevalent here, attention to detail and unique design are two distinct Mononoid traits, but it’s the cinematic scope and emotive brilliance of the main break which is sure to win most people and most importantly your dance floor over. This one is massive.

Next up and making his label debut is Zâgitar. The Spanish artist provides a percussive, highly detailed interpretation that leans more towards the melodic techno spectrum. It’s growling low end creates a big presence and the drum work is exceptional. Add to that a dramatic break and tasteful dialled in drop and you’ve got a contemporary rendition that should work well for a broad spectrum of DJs.

Rounding the release out is Anhauser who also make their label debut here. Hailing from the World (according to their facebook page) this brother duo owns past releases on Asymmetric Recordings, Stereo Productions and Toolroom. Getting the new year off to a great start Anhauser delivers a stellar rendition of ‘Hold On’. The tempo and energy shift up a gear while the vocal hook gets utilized throughout the first act. Timely transitions and a frantic rhythmic core make this a sure fire peak time bomb, while it’s concise running time should only add to its commanding and highly memorable presence. A great remix from Anhauser and a superb release from Beat Boutique to get the year off to a great start. Highly recommended.
