Wassu – Aerobic EP [Musique de Lune]

Musique de Lune's third offering of 2025 welcomes Wassu to the label for his debut EP. Based in the United States, Wassu has emerged from New York's avant-garde electronic music landscape, staking his claim as one of the counties premiere organic house talents. Noted for his attention to detail, voluptuous grooves and emotive musicality, Wassu's craft shines through vividly, making each one of his creations an absorbing experience. A meticulous discography showcasing a consistent stream of superlative releases via All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, DAYS like NIGHTS and The Soundgarden, have been well-received, earning play and support from genre tastemakers Lee Burridge, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Tim Green. Also an accomplished DJ, the New York resident has performed across the globe, showcasing his keen sense of dancefloor dynamics alongside elite international talents Above & Beyond, Bob Moses, Jody Wisternoff, DJ Tennis, and Maceo Plex, amongst others. With 2024 being one of Wassu's most creative and prolific years to date, the American artist continues that momentum into 2025, opening the year making his Musique de Lune debut with 'Aerobic'.

Already played by Above & Beyond on Group Therapy 613 earlier this month, it is the title track 'Aerobic' which sets the mood for the EP. Wassu's uncanny knack for crafting timeless, groovy tracks that often sit in a borderless region is on full display here. Simple, mature and undeniably club-effective, it's a smooth marriage of chunky grooves, dubbed-out chord stabs and swing heavy percussion which ultimately makes this one so hypnotizing, add to that a timely and classy array of effects and you've got a versatile cut that a broad range of DJs can play.

The companion piece 'You Make Me Feel' rounds out the EP in equally impressive fashion. Deconstructed vocals move throughout the piece, evolving and captivating in equal measure, acting as a primary narrative early on, while airy melodies, chirpy effects and bucolic atmospheres seal a tastefully emotive finale to round out the EP in style. So much of electronic music in present day is based around trends, something gets done to death and it dates it to a particular period of time, so it's always nice to see an artist like Wassu crafting timeless cuts like these which will never sound old or out of fashion.
