The latest release from Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint finds the label presenting the second installment of it's 'Re:Imagined' series. With the first edition landing in February of last year, these Various Artists EP showcases take a look back over the label's catalog, presenting new interpretations from some of the freshest talent in the underground. Not bound by genre or style, 'Re:Imagined' Vol.1 earned praise for it's contemporary blend of organic, progressive and deep house sounds. Now presenting the second installment in the series, Sound Avenue invites Yarni, Eric Lune, LADS and Jayden Klight to re-interpret tracks from Madloch and Subnode, Mariner + Domingo, Ercos Blanka and B.A.X. respectively.

Making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of Madloch and Subnode's 'Pattern Lock' is Yarni. Based in Sheffield, the British artist has carved out a unique place in the electronic underground. With a sound that marries live percussion and catchy melodies with the darker elements of dub techno, Yarni has earned the praise of Mind Against, Throwing Snow, Riva Starrr and Richie Hawtin, while landing releases on some of the world's freshest record labels, most notably Nie Wieder Schlafen and Seven Villas. Now making his Sound Avenue debut, Yarni's masterstroke is to collaborate with sax player Jonoa for a soulful rendition of 'Pattern Lock'. Rhythmically enticing from the outset, a bed of broken beats and chunky bass stabs sets the foundation for a storyboard of tasteful chord stabs and smoky sax riffs. Wavy and whimsical in all the right ways, Jonoa's riffs resonate across the first act, blended perfectly against a backdrop of dimly lit atmospheres and sweeping effects. Furthering its textural appeal is an intoxicating break, building tension through a rising blend of hazy harmonics and drony sax fragments, before pulling back as the beats for a finale that is equal parts musical and groovy.

Selection two finds label stalwart Eric Lune returning with a gorgeous rendition of Mariner + Domingo's 'Walk On'. Having built a bond with the label early on, it is Sound Avenue which has the distinction of releasing Eric's first production, a contribution to the label's 2018 Summer Sampler series entitled 'Re-Entry'. Moving forward, Eric's 'Embers' and 'Dreaming Home' EPs subsequently landed on the Belgian imprint in 2020 and 2021 respectively. Now presenting just his second remix of the year, Eric takes 'Walk On' into his fantastical world of progressive house. Clocking in at nine magical minutes, the Aussie artist effortlessly melds buoyant bass lines, organic percussion and colourful melodic concepts, for what results in a travelogue of emotive audio. Advancing the storyboard further, elegant vocal phrasing adds impassioned moments across the main break, smoothly drifting through layers of vivid sonics and perfectly foreshadowing a goosebump worthy finale.

Next up and returning to the label for their second appearance are LADS. Hailing from Germany and South Africa respectively, the duo has a meticulous discography highlighted by releases on Lost and Found, Magician on Duty, Nie Wieder Schlafen and Rebellion Der Traumer, where their intricate yet dreamy sound has flourished. Having remixed Ercos Blanka's Spotify hit 'Kafka' for Sound Avenue in October of last year, LADS now returns with their previously unreleased Dub version. Deep yet robust, the piece flows through a storyboard of undulating bass, chunky rhythms and fragmented design, before shifting energy into an otherworldly break. Nostalgic in nature, the centrepiece projects an optimistic radiance, as waves of percussion and emerging rides cue a pulsating finale.

The release concludes with Jayden Klight returning to the label and providing the lone interpretation of 'Into The Aura' by B.A.X. The US artist made his first appearance on the Belgian imprint in September of last year with a remix of 'Pattern Lock' by Madloch and Subnode, before returning in January of this year with his well received 'Click' EP. Also finding a home on L'enfant terrible, Magician On Duty, Nie Wieder Schlafen and Seven Villas, Jayden now lands back on Sound Avenue with a Drum and Bass interpretation of 'Into The Aura'. Sleek and timeless, Jayden flexes his studio versatility here, with a vibrant blend of clustered melodies, shape shifting atmospherics and neatly polished percussion. Much like the original, it relies on silky transitions and meditative flow to translate its message to the listener, one which Jayden has executed perfectly here. A stunning remix from a talent who continues to surprise and impress, capping off an excellent second edition of Sound Avenue's 'Re:Imagined' series.
