The Cobb – Magic Sun [-102C]

The second release on -102C finds label boss The Cobb returning with a new EP. Born out of the success of parent label Deepwibe Underground, -102C will serve as it's organic house subsidiary, operating with the same level of quality and care. The Cobb first came to our attention in 2020 with a string of releases via Deepwibe Underground. Hailing from Saint Petersburg, Russia, Andrei Yakovlev aka The Cobb has been a primary figure in his cities nightlife for over a decade. As a resident DJ at the legendary Warrp Club, Andrei has delighted crowds with his exquisite programming skills and a fresh blend of organic house and melodic house and techno. With his first ever release landing in September of last year it's been a quick rise for the Russian artist, notching two more singles and being remixed by progressive music star Dmitry Molosh, while earning the support of Sasha, Solomun and Guy J. Now after the successful launch of -102C in June, The Cobb returns to the label with a two track showcase entitled 'Magic Sun'.

Since beginning his journey as a producer The Cobb has continued to blur the lines between progressive and organic house with great success. 'Magic Sun' proves to be a memorable work of art once again, complete with gorgeous design qualities and highly emotional, almost spiritual themes. The drums immediately stand out, live and exotic sounding they bring amazing depth and rhythmic qualities, while never taking away from the heartfelt motifs which eventually make up the top line. Soulful vocal wails and processed pianos sit in a perfect sonic marriage across a transcendent break, one that is sure to capture the imagination of dance floors and living rooms in equal measure. Likely The Cobb's defining production of his young career and one that should stick with you for a long while.

The companion piece 'Snow in the Dark' follows suit with an equally impressive array of rich design and misty musical themes. From the framework up it is a touch more house oriented, primarily because of a funkier bottom end, and once again gorgeous vocal wails and cascading melodies unite in a perfect blend of harmony and colour. Perhaps an ideal track to set the mood of a room or a whimsical delight for the early morning hours, it's versatility can't be overstated and once again shows The Cobb's remarkable rise as a producer. Expect big things from him going forward and for now cherish these two beauties across the summer season and beyond. Highly recommended.
