Tantum – Korner [Juicebox Music]

Following an EP for Lost & Found, German progressive house phenom Tantum returns to Praveen Achary's Juicebox Music with 'Korner'. The Berlin resident has been hotly tipped since first emerging in 2018 with a release via Einmusika's Ein imprint. Always finding a nice balance between progressive and melodic house, Tantum found success in relatively short order, signing his subsequent projects with Juicebox Music, Mango Alley and Pokerflat. Now, five years on and Tantum has become a regular contributor to underground titans Lost & Found and Radikon, a unique and enviable spot for any artist to be in. Praveen Achary’s Juicebox Music has also been a primary landing spot for Tantum’s output, recording five originals across two EPs since his label debut in 2019. This week finds the German artist making a return to the highly regarded Indian imprint with a new single backed by a remix from Sri Lankan star Subandrio.

Destined to be a highlight in Tantum's discography, 'Korner' lands with a sizable thump, as the Berlin resident works metallic hooks and buzzing sonics over top of punchy beats and rippling basslines. Cleverly coaxed chord stabs provide copious amounts of swing and momentum across the first act, perfectly setting the stage for a tastefully twisted break and perfectly manicured drop. Definitely one for the astute dancefloors out there.

Rounding out the release in impressive fashion is Subandrio who provides the lone interpretation of 'Korner'. The Colombo resident would have to be considered Sri Lanka's longest running progressive house artist, dating all the way back to his debut on Cid Inc's Replug Records in 2015. As one of the progressive scene's more creative remixers, Subandrio always seems to deliver something sensational, infusing his own detailed style while managing to keep the spirit of the original. He's certainly achieved that here with a sweeping sonic experience that will not only light up a dancefloor, but also provide new discoveries across multiple late night listening sessions. A heady interpretation from Subandrio, which rounds out a welcome return to Juicebox Music for Tantum, an artist who continues to impress across the progressive and melodic house spectrums. Highly recommended.
