Widely regarded for his smooth, nostalgic sound, Amsterdam resident George Panagoulopoulos aka Stage Van H has been a primary contributor to Just Movement since making his label debut in 2014. As one of the more prolific artists within the progressive music landscape, Stage has also found a home on Balkan Connection, Massive Harmony Records and Movement Recordings. Also, an accomplished DJ with more than twenty-five years to his credit, Stage has shared the booth with the underground’s top talents, such as John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo and Tiesto. Now, following a remix for Emotional Content Recordings to begin the year, Stage returns to Just Movement with the much anticipated ‘That Sound in my Mind’. Clocking in at eight magical minutes, it’s the groovy sounds of the title selection which lead the release off. Superbly produced with character and warmth, Stage works clustered hooks and pulsating rhythms over a warm, mountainous underbelly, as layers of percussion add bounce and drive to the narrative. The break furthers its melodic appeal with a colourful blend of catchy motifs and balmy atmospheres, perfectly setting the stage for groovy drop and spirited finale. The release concludes with ‘The Origins of Life’ which sits as an equally impressive companion. Complementing its rolling groove are punchy beats, kaleidoscopic arps and neatly manicured percussion. Vibrant synth phrasing and sweeping effects marry across an energetic first act, before opening up into an effects-laden break and soaring final movement. It rounds out two timeless creations from Stage which are arguably the best of his career, and what better place to showcase them than his primary home in Just Movement. Highly recommended.
